I would hope someone guessed the motor since in these 80 pages every conceivable motor that Yamaha could or would make has been talked about. LOL. That must mean either the cross plane 4 or the turbo 3 which seems to be the most popular theories. I love reading this thread. I think its great to see everyone's ideas and opinions. I just hope the new sled is as good as what Yamaha is truly capable of building.
 
I almost posted but I think I'll wait. It's only a hair over a week. You will all know by then what is coming. But I will say this, the top line machine's motor has been guessed on this thread. The clue is the SOUND!!!

Different parts of the vid have different sounds.... One clip really sounds like a turbo waste gate dumping but at the same time, the engine sounds like a screaming R1. Maybe it's a boosted 4 banger..... one can dream lol
 
after putting 200+ miles on this weekend, here's what I'm hoping for from Yamaha- a Yamaha built sled- something in 180 hps range for those long lake runs when the lake is shitty and full of slush- something you can 1.5" track and studs (Yamaha is terrible of clearance)- something with a good set of skis that with turn in the slop, not just when the trails are hard-something with handwarmers that work, big enough fuel tank(tank in the frame or under seat to keep the center of gravity down), a rear skid that can eat the big bumps,led lights, a gauge that you can read (nytro stucks), something that doesn't weight a 10000000 lbs so you can play in the snow, insure it's good on belt, sliders and idler wheels, looks sexy AF, and doesn't break the bank to buy - I know this sounds like a viper, but I'd like something built just by Yamaha for us that have been here for a long time. My first ever sled was a Yamaha (4 yrs old- 84 ET 340) and I'd like my last one to be a Yamaha!

Can't wait till March 1st
 
As much as I'd like a new light weight 100ish HP Phazer replacement I just don't think that goes along with "warning to the competition" and "Don't Blink" unless they somehow really have a lightweight 4 stroke on there hands. Hell, if they just refreshed the current Phazer with Nytro race geometry up front, dropped 35#, and bumped it to 100hp I'd be spring ordering. That would be the mythical 450# 4 stroke
I would say that Yamaha has got to move in to the light weight 4 stroke platform, that's all you hear is how heavy these sleds are compared to their competitors, Yamaha has to be hearing this from their customers, they have the engine know how they need to take the next step, can you imagine a 160ish hp apex in a under 500lb new body style same as a new phazer with 110hp in a 450 lb light weight new body style they would be sold out, maybe I'm dreaming I hope they come out with something to this effect this year other then new stickers or I hate to say this but I will be darkening another brands doorstep this fall. :(
 
I'm hoping the sled in the latest photo is a Mule for the components. Really hoping for a sled that looks Bad Azzed to go along with a Smokin fast(4s) motor that eats up miles of groomed trails like never before.
Also I am wondering if they are going to Throw Us A Bone! And save the Goods for '18.
We'll need another 500 pages on the Server....

Someone on Dootalk basically said what it is. There is a fraction of Doo riders screaming for a factory turbo 1200. Cat/Yam is giving us one, new 3 hole motor, new chassis, new clutches with a turbo. There ya go...only one exists at the moment, not on production line yet.
 
I asked about the crossplane 3 years ago...and somebody here....told me no, because it had to do more with how the torque is used by the rear wheel, and that it would not apply to a snowmobile the same way. (or something like that) Do any of you remember that conversation??
I don't know, or understand the whole principal of the crossplane engine, or how it works..I'm no expert, and not a very mechanical guy..but I know it was spelled out by some of the experts here, and they pretty much put that idea to bed....IMO it makes sense for them to use the crossplane...it fits what Yamaha has been doing with other engines in their line-up....it's a logical conclusion Yamaha people could draw.
