New 2017 Yamaha Sleds...

I love 4stroke tech ! But the big 3 artic cat doo and poo make more money of the 2stroke parts and customers every 2/3 years just my opinion!

I would say your about 66% correct, it's defiantly the big two in the parts and built in obsolesce.
In my part of the world the Cat motors (since the 03 model year redesign) have been comparable to the 02 to 04 Viper triple reliable, there are a lot of them around with 15000 Klm on them without issue.
Cats sales problem here is getting past their clutch/belt issues of 2012-13.

They are very close in weight. The Doo does come standard with electric start even though it's a 2-stroke, most of the Doos come with it from the factory.
Not this year. Gotta elect ES if you want it. Adds weight AND $$$!

Just came back from the dark side, I mean Doo site "2017 Renegade X 850, Ski Doo advertised dry weight 485 lbs" that makes it 20 lbs lighter than my 141 Viper XTX.
Add battery and starter to the Doo and be about equal, add extra weight of snow the Doo platform carries compared to the Pro Climb and in an hour the Doo is heavier.
As far as the 20 lb difference is concerned, I would love to have my sled shed 20 lbs, it's jeans would fit better, its suit would fit better and make sure it doesn't take the step from L to XL.
And if the EPA takes one more step we will be looking for lighter catalytic converters for our 4 strokes.
They also r shaving a gallon on gas tank off those new chassis to make it weigh less "wet". Wow. Brilliant. Why not just put 1 G less in when u want to be lighter. Now they lost range ... More frequent stops for all your new Doo buds.. :drink:

Great, but I'm sure they will claim it's because of the superior DI 2 stroke fuel economy..... Every Etec rider I ride with claims 20mpg but they are NEVER close to that at the pumps, My Phazer gets the best mileage out of my group and that's only 18-20 mpg, followed oddly enough by a 13' Poo 800 that gets great mileage and an older carbed Vector.

Brilliant is the word! Why are these manufactures downsizing fuel tanks? Ski-doo is one thing because they offer an aftermarket fuel can on there link system. Yamaha keeps downsizing eg, phazer, and apex with no aux fuel supply. My nytro was always too small as well, at least they offered the fuel caddies which no longer exist! Is about time they start designing a sled to do 230-250kms with on board fuel, whether it be in tank or aux. To me it seems like there designing them for 160 kms / 100miles. It sucks having to rely on a skidoo in the pack to provide the extra fuel! Good job on the Viper with fuel on board for 240kms.

They redesigned the tank smaller because the old tanks you could never fill to the top the air pocket created would never let you fill it. So what they are stating even though the tank capacity is less. The actual amount you have in the tank hasn't changed

I remember the earlier Vectors, Apexes, Ventures, etc. were downsized due to a need to "legalize" the tank...I believe they were too thin. The EPS equipped sleds had to be further downsized to allow extra room under the tank to accommodate the power steering unit. Regarding the new Doos, I believe the tank was reduced in size in order to accommodate the relocated battery to the behind and under the seat.

Sidewinder ..... Viper... Apex.... Phaser.... Let's get this back on the rails...
Anymore updates anyone ?

New prediction: viper chassis with 3 cylinder cross plane crank producing 130-150 HP
Wait, doesn't "cross plane" mean each lobe on the crank is 90 degrees off from each other? I'm no engine expert, but I'm not sure that can be done with 3 cylinders...
This thread makes me Happy and Sad all at once... LOL!
