I'd rather have a standalone GPS as well. I would bet that my cheap Garmin with VVMapping maps on it would be a lot better than a built-in GPS. In addition, how are you going to see your other gauges like RPM, Speed, Temp, Fuel, etc if you have a GPS built-in?

Naked now without my Garmin Nuvi. $40 (actually SD slot didn't work so they told me to keep it and gave me a full refund!) ebay + $30 Rammount. Add mapping software and you are good to go. I agree that built in ones never seem to work as well or be easy to update. One in my truck is useless.

I am not overly familiar with the Polaris Ride Command feature, but as I understand it, it is dependent upon cellular service, in other words, if you don't have cell service, you won't see the other riders. It is a nice feature, but truthfully, for a lot of my riding, it would not work. We maintain voice contact with riders in our group using communicators; if someone has a problem or falls behind, we know it.
It wasn't Moosehead, but I used my Montana to go the length of Long Pond in Jackman in a snowsquall with high wind that made for zero visibility last month. There were markers in the ice, but you couldn't see one until you were right on top of it. I told my grandson to stay on my tail light, and not let it out of sight; with the communicators I kept assuring him that we were "good." When we came onto the lake, there was a single rider sitting looking out into the snow who was obviously at a loss for how he was going to get up the lake to the trail connection. He made a leap of faith and followed us. When we got to the other side, he couldn't thank us enough.
The new Ride Command dash on the Matryx chassis does not need cell service to work. HOWEVER, the phone app still needs cell service to work properly.

Garman Montana 680. Love it, plug it into my Rocztoyz power supply and in the summer I use it on my quad. I like the details I get as well as it has helped me get home when I took a wrong turn or three.

$25 Garmin Nuvi off EBay, $40 VV map chip and $30 Ram mount sits right on top of factory gauge and works great.

Any issues with water intrusion? I like the Montana (and it's IPX7 rating), but I've been looking at the zūmo XT due to the larger screen, lack of camera (because that's not something I'd ever use), and the fact I'd save about $50. Plus, the zūmo also has the IPX7 rating.

I have a 55 and did nothing to it. It’s been snowed on and misted on and has shown no problems for the past 2 years. I do have a medium windshield so it’s protected from the wind but I did not silicone it or close off any of the ports.

No issues at all with water. I use it on my quads in the mud all the time. I have the camera only because it was 15 more than the 660 Montana. The screen is plenty big when riding. Sure it could be better but then it might get in the way when I am off trail and hammer the bars while off carving in a swamp.

I'd probably see what I could do to mount it above the gauge cluster (which may force me to bump up to a medium windshield to keep it somewhat protected).

I would have but I have my AFR and Boost gauges up there. I use those when I am riding. I use the GPS when I stop mainly.

GPS are a handy tool to have, cell phones have GPS apps which work really good also, I remember when GPS they first come out we used them for off shore fishing but there was no map screen just numbers like the old loran C's but way more accurate, within 10-20 ft of a mark, later they could be plugged into your plotter then shortly after into your auto pilot which was unbelievable when you were steaming out over 150 miles off shore to your gear, now it all comes in one small package like the ones you have on your snowmobile, high tech its allway's improving.
