Not only did all the snow here melt off yesterday but then this...

That's tough......... This makes me wonder if my two Harley's stored in a friends shop would be covered if there was an incident. I guess I should be safe and check into it.

Hopefully thing will work out.
I had my boat in a friends shop. It collapsed on it from snow load on the roof. I sent my adjuster pics and we settled. They didn't even come look. I was happy for that. His shop wasn't insured by the way.

Are you sure that the wind storm didn't blow it clear off the property...and then it got stolen?

So the insurance has decided to total it out. They have valued the sled at 5600 and now I'm waiting on them to decide a salvage or buy back value. If they are over 1500 I'll strip off the aftermarket parts they aren't paying for and give it to them, I have a solid offer for a 2016 Viper XTX SE for 9k or a Apex XTX for 200 more, both still in their crates.

So what did I learn?
1. Even if a tree has never fallen in 30+ years into the bin where your sled is setting while it waits for another project (72 El Camino SS getting a 509 installed) to get out of its bay, maybe the odds will not be in your favor that it won't occur 2 days after its placed there.

2. Call center claims people are idiots and don't know what the heck they're talking about. If a tree falls on your sled outside, even on another persons property, that's covered under the sleds comprehensive coverage.

3. EVERY trailer is eligible and should be insured on its own. If it is hooked to your vehicle it has only liability (damage to other peoples property). You need Comp to cover acts of nature against it, collision to cover if its destroyed in an accident. I got 4k of comp and collision now on it for $40 a year.

4. Scrutinize your damaged sled if you think you might want to push it to be totaled and buy it back, report and photograph EVERY little issue from the accident. The appraiser thought a little cosmetic here, steering stem there, $1300 and its fixed. I then came back that it looked like the sub-frame was bent, the tunnel tweaked, the drivers side bulkhead cracked, and he never argued, just said "Yup, It's a total loss".

Let us know what happens! I vote Apex if u need to go that route! Hopefully it all works out.

Wind blew a large Tamarack down beside my Garage. Missed my boat by inches! I was lucky you where not. Insurance is only good till you need it, then its a crap shoot. Hope it works out for ya!

So the insurance paid this week, I paid off the sled immediately and began to assess what I had to have to put it back together. Here is the first serious part I had to replace
IMG_0360.jpg
It was just slightly bent LOL. The wild part is that the stem was the only issue in the entire steering system, the upper frame that holds the bushing is dead straight, even with the relocation kit. The risers just needed to be loosened and brought back into place, all the cables were fine, no issues. What saved them was the routing of the cables to the back of the stem, had they of been routed in front of the stem like stock I'd of busted the brake hose and maybe the e-brake cable for sure. Stem was $30 of a 08 RTX that the kid put a stem with the riser pivots built in.

Once the busted "windshield" - air foil was removed the crack in the cowl right behind the windshield popped back into place, a little epoxy could be put on it to hold it absolutely firm, but its about 2" long and doesn't appear to be a real issue. I'll install a spare windshield off that same RTX, $25

The bars might have a bend, not super sure, but just in case I bought a set of MTX bars with the hoop, I'll get those monday, 50 + 30 for the controls to fix an already busted thumb warmer issue. They should match well with my roxs 6" risers. Also the stock hand guards broke, but I have a boat load of options here, I have a new set of stockers, some huge skinz fabric ones, and I bought a set of ski-doos blacked out, $10-25.

The seat had a rip in the bottom section by the drivers side ankle. Got a excellent blue seat for 100. The old one with the rip is going to get a 2" booster seat trying to decide who to get that kit from, WRP or another option. Local motorcycle seat maker felt $450 was fair in solid black, 100 more with blue accents, we just weren't going to see eye to eye, but I'll keep looking.

The headlight was clearly smashed into or hit by the steering stem, in either case it has a perfect smash dead in the middle of the back of it and it opened the entire back of the light. Got hooked up for 35 on a prefect light.

So I'm waiting til monday for many of those parts (guy from work went back home 4 hours from me, which just so happens to be right next to the guy with the bars, seat, and light), but I have the stem in and took the sled for a rip at my shop in a corn field (I have ZERO insurance until I get a insurance inspection that I fixed the sled back to pre-accident and safe condition) and I have to say, Holy Sheet!!! My friend brought out his 11 Poo iq lx 700 turbo whatever and got his butt spanked! We both were loose and pushing, the base is a glare icy disaster with 18" of loose grainy powder, I was hiking out and tipping the sled to try and ease it thru the corner which were wider than I would of ever thought with the C&A Pro RZ's BN 6", we was running stock poo garbage with old carbides and he came ripping down the field (5 acres long, 3 wide) went to turn and disappeared into the tree line.

That's great that it sounds like you were able to improve your sled from where it was fairly reasonably.

Just came upon your post, WOW,bad luck!

You said your tank may be cracked, if you need one, I have the original out of mine from when I put a trail tank in.

If you need one, I will give it to you if you pay the shipping.

Good luck, Dan

Thanks for the offer, but to update the thread

Insurance totaled the sled, I bought it back for 500, I put about 300 back in for a steering stem, seat, MTX bars, headlight, windshield. I also had to pay a local dealer 45 to safety inspect the sled and certify for the insurance it was all fixed up and good to go again, so I believe its all good and fully insured again.

The MTX bars turned out had a bad hand warmer (first start up, the right hand lit up) so I'm going to fix that now (23 for SPI mountain warmers, 17 for RSI 8" grips, 10 for RSI grip glue)

While at the dealer they tried to sell me on a new sled, still milling it over, but they offered up a 2014 Viper RTX with 500 miles of snow checking for 8200 cash out the door after all taxes, regi, and any other fees. He gave me til noon today to get him the cash.
