My friends and i have been talking about our sleds since we got back from eagle river trip...

ON both of my buddys polaris 2002 xcsp 600s with m-10s they both lost 10+mph on the top end since installing the Heavy hitter Clutch kits set up by simons CPR...

Dans sled has the HHs and a SLP big mouth and slp boost bottle.. and he noticed the clutching difference right away.. He is beating barrys sled right away all the way threw the top end and he weighs 50LBs more than Him.. But he could only get about 88mph at best on the lake and most of the time 80mph was it.. His sled pulls about 8000rpm at all speeds when hammered..

Barrys sled has the HHs and a SLP big mouth and SLP boost bottle and SNO-STUFF silancer and the TEMPAFLOW... His sled runs sluggish.. Has a bad bog.. we took carbs apart and cleaned and still no difference... Seems to load up.. cant stay in the powerband..and he gets a best of 80mph only on the lake.. was seeing 105 last year with just the boost bottle...Pulls about 8000 out of the hole and fall to about 7000..Runs very inconsistant.. sometimes runs good other times runs like SH*T!! He is getting killed by DANS sled... even thought he weights 50lbs less than dan.

What do you think is the problem with both sleds. why did they loose so much top end..?

Brian.

First the M-10 is killing both of them performance wise. But you can't beat the ride. Put the slowest sled back stock (EVERYTHING) and start over. Then run the two of them side by side see what you have. Your rpms on the 600s should be 7800 no more. If over 7800 horsepower will fall like a ton of bricks. Then Jet the stock sled down 1 or 2 sizes down watch plugs. Than run again! I can't remember what comes stock for weights in the motor clutch. But whatever weight comes stock go 2 grams higher Polaris weight. Make sure helix is in hole #2. Run again! If can't pull rpm go to hole #3 you will lose a little back-shifting but should raise rpms. If i am right you should be running a stock R-11 helix is a 46/36. Top end is lost because weights are not dialed in. It would not hurt if you would run a Yellow EPI motor clutch spring. It will help bring your engagement up from 3200 were you are now to around 4200. This will help put you more in the power band. It sounds to me that there performance parts are hurting them. (Later)

I don't know, Welt..I've done nothing to my RX's, engine/clutch wise, and this is why:
Watching/helping my semipro drag race buds all summer is frustrating, trying different things, measuring, monitoring, etc...humidity, temperature, etc..the variables are endless..and there are more in winter, hour by hour.
I can't go by feel, or who I'm faster than right now..it could change later. Testing has to be under the same conditions, back to back to tell if there is really an improvement or not. Some things like an M10 lowering speed are knowns...but engine/clutch tuning needs much discipline to actually see improvements consistently.
These guys spend most of the time pulling their hair out...they get a sled running great, race it, and the same setup the following weekend, at the same track (mine) and the thing might be a dog.
Very frustrating and time consuming. I give a lot of credit to the guys who do well and have fast sleds all the time...but someone did the hard homework to get there.

Dans sled would get 103mph on the speedo last year.. this year a best of 88mph..

Barrys sled could get 105mph last year .. this year only 80mph..

MXZ900,
What are your M10 set up clues my buddy has an 02 xc700 m10 and is down 3-5mph from his brothers X10. He love sthe ride.
-What is ideal track tension?
-are you using the over sized rear wheels of tri city polaris?
Any other advice appreciated as we/he would love to beat his brother You know how that goes. Thanks Yamadoo
