Oil Breather Leak Fix?

So the oil res and the crank vent are tied together and breathe in and out of the same filter? Sounds like it would work but only in a position that would allow the oil to run back into the crankcase instead of pooling and running out of the filter. Should work good for when the unit is on its side but may not work if it is on its lid. Either way I think it is a better approach than a valve since it is failsafe, even if you do lose a few drops of oil sometimes.

the beauty of what the ulmer filter did is, it allows the oil to go to the path of least resistance. when it is on its side or upside down it flows from the resi to the top of the valve cover. when you right the sled and let it sit for a few minutes, it flows back to the resi.

like i said not much if any oil will escape the filter as long as the sled isnt running when it is on its side or upside down. has no motor pressure to push it out of the filter. ski

Put your finger over a straw full of liquid pull it out of the glass and it doesn't drain out, not exactly the same but similar. As I said in an earlier post, killing the engine quickly is probably the biggest fix. A tether switch can solve a lot of problems.

i was thinking the same thing, kinda like that chocolate guy on tv with the girls attacking him and his weird expressions. and the new burger king KING, freaks me out. time for a new avitar bro, LOL! ski

The Burgerking guy is the spookiest thing since the Wizzard of Oz.( I was 39 before I was able to watch that flick by myself :jump:

I have the Ulmer kit as well, and initially it did as you described. Now, after several upside-down adventures the filter is saturated and leaks like an open line. The last time the entire engine compartment and all (and I mean all) my panels were covered in oil, it took 3/4 or a litre to get the res back up to normal. I am doing the bottle thing this weekend and will re-use this filter on the vent end of the setup.

I just bought a tethered shut off valve set up from MtnViper. It has a tethered normally open valve (incase of failure) and works great. He did an awesome job building the kit.

Glad you like it Spray. It comes in handy when spending a fair amount of time rubber side up. :tg: Also for those of us who get stuck it makes easier to get un-stuck, simply roll the sled on it's side and drag'er around. ;)!

What is this foolishness you speak of? Rubber side up? I wouldn't dream of such a thing :drink:

When I got my valve Mtnviper asked me to put it through it's paces and give him some feedback..... I don't think he expected me to do it all in one day!! The good news is I can say without a doubt it works.

Take the little filter off the sled and wash it thoroughly with hot soapy water. This should get the saturated oil out of the filter mesh and allow it to with hold the oil for a while again not spilling it out all over on roll over.
