oil change info

I just did my first oil change and the operators manual states capacity is 2.8 L or 3 U.S. quarts, I have 2.8 L in now and the oil level is way below the min line on the oil tube. How much has anyone that has done an oil change put in to fill the oil tank ? Also to change the oil with out removing the muffler is next to impossible .
The anual maintenance requires the chain case cover to be removed to inspect gears and brass bushing required every year good to do oil change same time

Far more % do it in the fall. I have always done mine in the fall.

You don't want that dirty oil in the motor till fall for yami's 20 year warranty it has to be done every spring

Do you really want dirty oil sitting/settling in your sled for 5-7 months between use? Or stored away with clean oil . Very easy decision in my books.
X2

Bringing sled/oil up to temp every time you run the sled and or change oil is far more important then when IMO.

I agree you should change your oil every year, in the spring preferably. However, I have a buddy who I will not mention his name and he has a Venture with the 1049 engine and I used to bug him every year to do maintenance on his sled. Finally after 10 years he let me change his oil. lol. The sled is still running strong and he rides it like a trail sled. I mention this because there are a lot of people out there that aren't like most of us on this site and they seem a lot happier and less worried than I am. I have literally been riding behind him when a wheel came rolling out from under his sled because the bearings were gone. I stopped and picked it up and gave it to him when we stopped. :)

What does Yamaha require for service on the 20 year warranty? I'm sure that it says in the agreement. Plus don't expect them to warrant work not done by a dealer service department! Also you don't get to choose what oil etc.

I took my driveshaft out myself and it was spinning in the bearing.
They warrantied it and gave me a whole new driveshaft assembly.
Sooo???

I was referring to the 20 year warranty. Mainly for the engine. Does the warranty cover the entire sled for 20 years? I have heard that some people have gotten warranty on drivetrain parts done by themselves. Check the fine print on the 20 year warranty. I am going to my dealer tomorrow to pick up parts I ordered and will inquire about who could do the maintenance.

Just checked the 20 year warranty. It's online, google has it. Read it over, for most people it won't cover. Also it only refers to the engine. Sooo

Your right about who can service the sled. Have to be very accurate and document everything. My apologies for not knowing that you can do the oil change. Much fine print that could void the agreement. But it also shows that Yamaha has a good product (engine).

What do we have to look out for in the fine print?

It's easier to look up the information through google. =Yamaha 20 year warranty =. Racing, reflash etc. I remember in the eighties when the Buick GN came out racers put something over the VIN tag on the dash so that no one could find out if that car was raced. If GM knew your car was raced your warranty was forfeited.

Powersports1 in Wisconsin.
2552 miles.
But at 300 I checked it and was already spinning so I peened shaft and put new bearing in which did nothing.
