Do I need to get the old sealant off?

Yes I did when I installed mine. Use a small flat blade screw driver or a dental pick to get all of the sealant out of the groove. The sealant on my tank basically peeled right off with no issues. Remember to follow BOP torques specs when using their gasket.Do I need to get the old sealant off?

As has been said earlier since I have installed the BOP gasket I do get an aroma of hot rubber when riding especially right at shutdown but the gasket has no visible heat damage and everything appears to be normal. I suspect the smell will dissipate as time goes on.

Mine has held up great on the winder the past 2 seasons, no issues at all. Have another one to put on the Viper when the time comes.

Todd, the BOP gasket works, you can have peace of mind on the trails knowing the chain case is not going to leak if you install this gasket...Travis came up with a fail proof cure for this problem. install it properly and one of a few problems solved on the pro cross. For $35 it's a no brainer.
The other oil problem is from the lube oil leaking out of the air filter..simple fix is every now and then squeeze excess oil out of the air filter sponge...simple. Joe

With a small leak on original gasket material, how long might it last before it becomes a much bigger leak? Has anyone rode a full season with a slight drip from theirs? I just finished putting sled back together and I have already drained fresh oil once due to not replacing the o ring on drain plug ( which I didn’t have out as I drained oil when I removed chain case). I’m ordering the BOP gasket to have but was really hoping the tools were put away for now.

There is no predicting how much or when the leak will get worse but one thing for sure is it won't get better! Time is now to fix it before it creates a real problem.

I rode mine for a year with the leak bc I had just changed the oil and didn't want to deal with it. It was fine, didn't get any worse or better...lol. Just keep an eye on your levels. Added the BOP gasket the following year, good to go since. Knock on wood...lolWith a small leak on original gasket material, how long might it last before it becomes a much bigger leak?
