Options for one last 998T

If I was going to get another SW I would try to find an unsold, or real low mileage, 2024 LTX-LE. Add a Hurricane SM bundle, closed loop and be done....but I wouldn't part with my current SW in the process.
Do you have the closed loop system? How is it if you do? I picked up a leftover 24 GT. I am looking for options for tunes. Brother in law has the PM muffler bundle. Seems to like it alot. Not closed loop.

Yes I have closed loop on my Hurricane Tuned SW and it performs flawlessly. The closed loop is constantly adjusting the AFR to match the targets the Tuner has established in the specific tune you are using. I think closed loop is essential with a tuned 998.

To decide if I agree or not agree with your last sentence, what are the targets?
I've heard the targets are plenty safe and might be leaving HP on the table so to speak. If I was TD or Hurricane, I'd do same to make sure my customers don't experience failures (especially with gas that is "suspect."). For example, IMO, with "good" 92 octane gas with 10% ethanol, I can run 12.0+ AFR safely. My guess would be that closed-loop tunes would run at closer to 11.4-11.6? That's rich, but sled runs great, has good power, runs clean. But gives up some small HP for insurance. When I ran my sled on track dyno, I saw HP difference between 11.0 and 12.0.

On my sled which I own both hurricane and td bundles with closed loop they both seem to target 11.8 wide open throttle. That was my experience anyway.

I would be surprised if most tunes don’t have even more safety built in than they published given the cooling system on stock set up being used with most sleds… The power gained between 11.0 and 12.0 probably would only matter in very tight competitive drag race on perfect conditions wouldn’t you agree ? There is therefore some advantages based on use to have closed loop or not ?

Without closed loop how can the sleds ECU maintain a consistent AFR no matter what the tune target is? I agree the tunes are on the conservative side for good reason as who knows what octane fuel we are actually getting out of the fuel pumps. My Hurricane Header tuned 998 seems to Target 11.8.
Also operator input is always a question as some people can break an anvil!

If I pick up another 998, I may try closed loop. I think it is probably money that doesn’t need to be spent, but I like the idea of it self adjusting.

My TD tune on my last sled was flawless, but it was fat in warm weather for sure.

I may try Hurricane this time around.

I can say I was surprised at how stable my AFR is on track dyno without closed-loop. But, that's with known gas quality and not the huge variability we see out on trail stops. I just watch my AFR closely every time I fill up out in the boondocks.
True that some people can break an anvil. Lol

That's good. I thought they were in low 11's or lower.

Some like all the bells and whistles, others like to justify money is well spent and some go cheap as possible. I think life is short so treat yourself and enjoy to the max… when your to old to ride then you know you did it right…

A lot of info. I am a trail rider mainly. So not sure which way i will go. Looking at the 240 tune from Hurricane. Still debating on SM or PM yet.

I have had both of those tunes and ride with 2 other sleds with the same SM tune. I feel like you really can't go wrong with that level of tune for trail riding.
The 240 tune seems to always run well, is fun and impressive to ride, chews up any kind of fuel you throw at it and is not as hard on driveline parts as the bigger tunes.
SM or PM? It depends on your tolerance for noise IMO. There is a noticeable difference between the two. I went back to the SM from the PM because I dont want the noise anymore. I did try a quieter muffler on the PM tune and lost HP.
When someone asks about tunes on these 998t sleds for trail, I always mention the Hurricane 240ss SM tune.
