SnoWarrior said:Check the coolant mix if it is new. Lots of sleds with 100% antifreeze. This will make it overheat!
If you do a search you will find out how to cut it to a 50/50 mix and bleed the system. If you need more info let me know.

SnoWarrior is correct, many sleds including my Rage came with the wrong mix and my numerous overheat issues have ended completely now that I have corrected the mix.

Yamaha 1 I had a 01 600 xc sp that over heated on me twice. The first time it was cold out so we started the machines up and went back inside to suit up. Came back out and started down to the trail and hot light came on. Shut it off and let it sit for a little while then started it up a continued on. Finally got in to the trail and it came on again this time drove off the trail and into some snow and the light went off and it was good the rest of the day. It just got to warm idling and was no snow to the trail. Second time was going through town looking for motel no snow to cool heat exchangers got hot again. Didn't hurt it. I shut off when light came on.

Also, the owners manual says that you should let them warm up for 10-15 min. If you guys are just waiting until the temp light goes out that is not even close. Check your manual ...this 15 minute wait is only for the first ride...after that wait for the light to go out and ride...

Mine did that once when it was new...same thing I was off the sled reading a map and left it idling.STORM-CHASER said:This is why reason I want to add the temp gauge, what I dont like about the light is youe are fine one second and the next you are over heated. They should have 2 light one as a warning and the next one to shut down.Last week we were riding and we got lost we stoped and were looking at the map maybe 4 min. Then my sled shut down. It took me a little while to figure it out , But what happen is the heat light come on and if its sitting ideing when that happens then it will shut off.(nice safty feature)

Went out for a ride this morning. Only let it idle until the cold temp light went out. Put a bunch of snow on top of the running boards to make sure the exchangers underneath got some kind of snow on them. Everything warmed up ok, exchangers got warm and no light came on. Engine ran fine. I think it just idled too long with no snow and then when I went out of town with small amount of snow it heated up.
Everything should be ok
...........thanks everyone for the responses!

Yep ..after it breaks it some it wont heat up so quick but you would be surprised with warmer weather we have been having how quick they get HOT..so handle with care till she gets broke in and if theres low snow it never hurts to throw some up on those running boards!
