You need scratchers on all these 4 strokes. Two years ago my Wife and I had constant overheating issues with our 2016 1200 Doo's. The next season I put on scratchers and I have them on my Winder. When running in very hard frozen cold conditions you need them or you will overheat. 4 strokes run hot and get hot quick in low snow very hard packed conditions.
This is hard for me to accept on a $17000 sled. I have had Yamaha 4 strokes starting with a Used RX-1, a Used Venture, a New Vector, a New Apex, and now this new Sidewinder. Never once have I had an overheating problem riding lakes, trailes, or thin snow. I’ll buy green bananas but not this explanation

Mine seems to be fine when riding on lake as it's getting lots of snow. However if I go on a tight slow trail within minutes it quickly gets hot even with air temps below -20C. Once I shut it off it really climbs up the temp scale

Did it clear up after a mile?
If so;
Possible Tors issue related to the turn and throttle cable or possibly snow or ice on throttle cable.
I have kept my 2 flawless Apex's in case I run in to issues as you seem to have.
If my new Winder leaves me on the trail it gets Kicked to the Curb immediately.
It did and does, what is a Tors issue? My sled is always dry, warm and clean. Enclosed trailer and heated garage. I agree with the statements about getting snow kicking up under the tunnel but again, if this is the answer I shouldn’t have bought a Sidewinder. Reliability trumps performance for me.

Mine too. Dosent seem right. I can hear the coolant boiling in the tank. It’s confusing, let it idle to keep it circulating or shut it off and watch the temp skyrocket? My buddy sits next to me on his idling shaking his head

I wonder if it can still do engine damage once the sled isn't running? Thats when i see the highest tempsMine too. Dosent seem right. I can hear the coolant boiling in the tank. I didn’t catch it if you posted already but is your buddies the same model as well? Both 100% stock the way they come? If so then clearly somethings wrong that your dealer needs to address.Mine too. I’ve always run studs in all my sleds so the hardpack issues some have are helped as a side benefit.

Once i get some more testing on my radiator and fan setup i plan to release it. Scratchers work very well however many view them as a hassle and would much rather just flip a switch to turn on a fan.

Throttle Over Ride System. Info in your owners manual onit and lots here as well.
All the 4 Stroke Yammies have them I believe.. Protection against sticking or out of adjustment throttle cables.
Your throttle cable could be out of adjustment or you could of had some snow or ice around the throttle lever or cable.
If it happens again, turn sled off, straighten handlebars, snap throttle a few times, clear any snow or ice around cable where it goes into throttle lever.
Restart sled, likely will be fine.
Next time you are near a dealer, have them check the adjustment on the throttle.
My service dept. manager who assembled my sled, adjusted mine a little tighter during the build.

Yes, picked up the same day, one serial number apart. His has never gone into protection mode.
Just blew a belt on the lake. I can’t win with this thing. 300 miles.

Yesterday was my first ride on LTX-SE. The bar indicator ran at 3/4 consistently, sometimes higher. It's was five below when we started on hard pack. Whenever I ran slow thru tight spots etc at slow speed it got very hot fast. Overheated once. After things loosened up a bit it ran at 172-174 degrees consistently until I got in slow areas again with little loose snow. Then temp jumped up to 189 quickly. Anytime we stopped I shut it off under threw snow under to cool it. Definately putting scratchers on today. Just gotta figure out where to drill the holes
Lots info in my build thread always link in my sig below...

This overheat issue baffles me.
After putting over 3200 miles on my Winder I never had a over heat problem. I put ice scratchers on and never had to use them.
I even had to run down plow roads and side walks for miles and never a issue BUT, I do know the nature of the beast.
You can not go slow at low rpm with constant throttle. Blurping the throttle will allow better cooling by far.
1). Fuel aids in cooling. Bluping the throttle allows more fuel= better cooling.
2) Water Pump circulates more coolant at higher rpms= better cooling.
3) exhaust/air intake/waste gate/ air control valves will allow more air flow at higher rpms = better cooling.
Just my input.
