I am still using a lot of oil now, up to a qt. per 90 - 100 miles at wot,and people are commenting on the smell of it,so we got a pcv valve from an auto store, and installed it where the air filter was on hose from crankcase vent hose, hopeing this solves some of the problem,as i now have to fix heat exchanger before i can run sled to find out.

hey beast....i just got back from my quebec trip 2010 miles in 7.5 days, used a little over a quart but very seldom run over 70mph,i heard that if you fill oil level to full mark with dipstick screwed in it will use more oil than if you try to keep it at the empty mark screwed in so i tried that and didnt use hardly any oil at all, when at the full mark it dumps out of the k/n breather making a mess,18mpg and 1 new axle bearing in Matane on the north shore of gaspe the extended warr card came in handy :D did you get to russells motel for your trip to the county this year ? we'll have to hook up if your coming this way,im 15 minutes away from there on sled so let me know

hey 170plus,
sounds like you went around the gaspe.how was it?thats my favorite trip.just curious about yes warranty one of my buddy's was told becausc it was purchased in the u.s. it is no good in canada.wich is were we do all are riding.

Guys what you dont seem to understand is this thing is an oil animal, yes i check everything by the book, but when the light comes on,that is telling you it needs oil, bad,or right now. And yes to you 170 we did 850 miles in 4 days,w/break downs every day, well when i say break downs on broke shock,on rev 800,lost keys on one cat,and one poo, and my hole in running board, green blood, everywhere, bad day.

SnowBeast, two possible areas to check on excessive oil usage.

1) Does your breather hose have the slit? If not, you might be getting ice in the breather hose and the engine is shooting oil out the crankcase. (This happened to me and I caught hell for not doing the update)

2) Have you checked to see if your oil filter gasket is leaking? I have heard this happens on some sleds.

As for the oil lite coming on and needing oil real bad, I was surprised that my sled only took 1 liter of oil once the light came on. The sled holds 3 liters, so I am not sure how long you could ride down 1 liter of oil. Maybe one of the experts here could say.
