After skinning the back of my hand on the front spring nut trying to remove one of these clips, I got to thinking there must be a better way than a screwdriver. Anybody come up with a tool or have any suggestions to make life easier and a little less bloody?

HEY, I thought you were a TOOLMAKER, EH? SHouln't ya be able too come up wid sumpin EH? LOL!!!

I fixed up a pair of needle nose pliers and ground them to a sharper flat, so you can grab and pull instead of poke and slice.

make sure to order about 10 or so for stock at home, they dont like mutiple usings. LOL! i have 20 here LOL!!! got to be a better clip to use than that. ski

I were a tool maker, now I'm just a lowly production shlub. ;)! I had the needle nose thought run though my head ala Nos-pro but was looking to see if there were other ideas out there. someone is always building the better mouse trap, Eh!

you could replace those clip with an insert. (like the ones that come with the ultra plate) and then you have a screw to undo insted. I did that for the all of mine. only the ones I knew I would be constantly be removing. like the belly pan for oil changes and such.. just an idea but they work great.

were did you get the inserts, I have a damaged one to replace. If there is a order # what is it.

Funny to find this thread after just coming in from working on my sled and thinking (Why the fu_k did they use so many of these stupid @ss plastic fasteners?) I used a screw driver to get mine out and had the same thought about them not holding up to repeated use.

Well the first time I took the sled down I used two knives and slow raised each side..... worked ok but even then I damaged one or two...

Yesterday I took it completely down to the frame...
I used a sharp tiny pick (good quality one with the round end!) I would just stick the pointed end into the side of center section (where one could grab with pliers if the back of the jaws were thin enough) and once I sunk some of the pick into the plastic PULL! worthless pieces of plastic pops right out!!! ... Now I'm going to go find where I can buy them by thr 100s!!! Because I'm NOT reusing these again! Not the best way but takes about 2 sec per and most could be reused....

You can pick up the inserts at any local acklands or greggs distributing. I would imagine that most nut and bolt places also carry them... I get them at my work and they sure work well....Also the brass inserts are better than the aluminum ( aluminum will eventually corrode with any steel contact, plus are softer and will therefore strip easier). The brass coated are harder to squish too so a little more effort is required. So use brass coated only on steel and aluminum on aluminum...

The inserts I am referring to are not a Yamaha Part. Like I said.. you can pick them up at most fastener locations... I will take some pics of wat they look like and post them tommorrow.
