I am guessing you need to run more weight with the Apex primary?????
I have always used same ball end allen and torqued them till I feel allen wrench flex a bit. No Loctite. Never had one come loose and never had a issue. But that was always the old Primary. What the heck is everyone torquing those tiny little set screws to? Perhaps overtorquing with too much loctite then once it gets hot it expands.

Curious myself. I own a nytro and a vector. Looks like the same clutch on both. Are these the same as the Apex clutch? The Vector only has 1200 miles on it. If I can just swap weights and springs between them and swap the clutches then I'm sure the winder clutch would be fine with only 120 HP and I could have the old style on mine for free. What exactly is needed to swap the stock primary for an Apex primary other that the primary itself and the correct set of weights?

I don't believe the weights are the same nor will you be running the same amount of weight. I would say springs are interchangeable.
The weights on the Sidewinder clutch are farther way from the crankshaft center line then the Apex clutch. The farther away the weight, the less mass needed to create equal amount of force.

Many have switched back to the old style primary and having 0 issues....myself included.
This is the pic I received yesterday. Believe the sled is stock flashed.

If it's stock it wouldn't have a CAI on it. It's not stock flashed with that on there. What weights were in it? Lets see all the exploded parts including the blown and good weights and the miles on all of it too to get the complete picture and details.

To TPI:
1st I have heard of a stock flash Winder blowing the clutch apart. If he sent the photos to you guys did it have Thunder Products clutch parts in it? Just asking and not pointing fingers at anything. This is getting crazy!
I just bought a one owner SW from a guy from the UP that has 4400 trouble free miles, original belt. All stock. Just had the updates done including rollers.

12 pages and pictures of 2 actual different clutches? Very few actual other details.
Not changing anything.

I would not be concerned with stock HP Winders....but would be more concerned with big tuned, higher mile Winder primaries.
I wanted to test a TEAM long before I thought there was any strength issues, simply for the reason Im sick of blowing belts.

Has anyone heard of one of these clutches blowing apart that had a thunder products 911 clutch cover in it? I have been running one on mine since new. Would suck big time to have the primary blow apart like that. Could be super dangerous.

These are the types of things I mean. We're getting no details on these cases. I'm still not panicking, just keeping a closer than normal eye on things at this point. If it's stock it wouldn't have a CAI on it. It's not stock flashed with that on there. What weights were in it? NYTurbo can you give us some more details. Total miles, tune, miles tuned, clutch setup, miles on that clutch setup, etc.My buddies primary grenades last week, still under warranty. Dealer went to bat for him, but first question Yamaha asked dealer was is it tuned And we want a full diagnostic of the ecu.
At that point dealer couldn't peruse.

I am with you on that Dan. I feel the big HP Winders are the main concern. I am keeping my eyes open to Knappattack’s Team primary conversion. Glad to see someone is giving it a go around. This will help me make decisions next year if/when I flash mine.

If you look at the original posters pick , the roller is completely gone , so the person riding the sled is to blame not Yamaha with a so called bad design.....

Does the old style primary vibrate as much as the current SW clutch?
Apex clutch doesnt. Switched to one this season and it is definitely quieter but they are hard to come by. It has set screws for rollers and weight pins.Does the old style primary vibrate as much as the current SW clutch?
