Primary clutch exploded

That Polaris is pulling a SW, is that for clutch issues? The photos show Team primaries........just asking.

It’s a Team clutch !
I’m sure the TEAM clutch is probably better in a whole but they to fail .

Yes I know what a Team clutch looks like but what I am asking did the SW in the image being pulled have a Team clutch on it that failed?

From what ive been reading, the TAPP and PRO4 are the best for the harmonics, and STMs are a great primary but reading some of the guys saying they are not doing as well with the harmonics, Certainly better then stock clutches but if I was going aftermarket, TAPP is the cadillac of primaries and the Pro4 being a close second.

I think I read here from Terry that the Pro4 accepts the same weights as our YAM primaries, if this is true that is a savings there, not having to buy new weights. And I believe it can run either the Cat wide belt or the yam belts depending on your setup.

Maybe in the end, the Pro4 is something to consider? I believe its a few hundred less the a TAPP.

That TAPP looks pretty sweet!

Not sure but we do know Yamaha is not and are grenading at a rapid pace. The more I see the more it looks like some bad casting or shall we call it defective. Yamaha answer lately to dealers with warranty issues is was it tuned if so no warranty, if dealer say no they want a diagnostic printout from the ecu before anything is processed. Maybe just the area rep but that is what were seeing. Yamaha primary need to be inspected frequently for cracks and wear and just hope you see something before it breaks.
What manufacturer of any product would not check the ecu if they know that more than half of the units sold have been modified with 100hp increase in out put ? All of there durability testing means nothing with those increases.
Then show where a Yamaha clutch has grenaded when the owner has done a 500 mile check on the rollers ( which takes less than a min ) .
To me the cover cracking on the team clutch tells me it's a bad design ....

All clutches crack with wear and hp and your YAMAHA clutch will break quicker along with rollers etc. quit being so Yamaha , oh my clutch is fine ,didn’t run to garage just remember to duck when she blows
How did you know its fine if u didn't check ?lol

When u look at where the cover bolts on there looks to be a gap under cover (pink mark)closest to where the button slides up the tower . Then the cover bolt looks to crushed and bolt bent ( blue mark ). I don't think u can say that's a good design

I am trying bronze roller bushings. I will see how long they last.

When Yamaha decided to redesign their existing YXR clutch for the Sidewinder I wonder if they should have just went to a 4 arm system to balance out the pressure on the rollers?

To TPI:

1st I have heard of a stock flash Winder blowing the clutch apart. If he sent the photos to you guys did it have Thunder Products clutch parts in it? Just asking and not pointing fingers at anything. This is getting crazy!

I just bought a one owner SW from a guy from the UP that has 4400 trouble free miles, original belt. All stock. Just had the updates done including rollers.

There was someone last year from this site that sent me pics of his clutch letting go...all stock. Then I believe @snowbeast had a clutch that was cracked....don't remember if stock or flashed.

(Not trying to throw you under the bus Snowbeast...just trying to keep info correct)

There is more to this story than just a picture with a piece of the cover cracking. Who's to say that owner, or whoever put that clutch together, didn't bolt it down crooked and crack that cover on install? Again, too many unanswered questions. If the towers were to spread, all three or six would look like that and the bolts in the cover would be bent as well. I just don't see that happening from running. They would ALL be doing this, and they they are not. Somethings amiss here.

If that cover is tightened properly and bolts torqued correctly on install, I don't see this happening to the Team from running. I'll find out shortly as I'll be trying one myself.

Why are you so against the Team? Reports or pictures of them blowing are non-existant on HCS for the 998. I have a post where I asked about it as well and no one has replied with broken covers or blown clutches.

Hello! These things are Cats, not Yamahas. You're riding an Arctic Cat with a Yamaha engine in it and Yamaha decals on it!

6 arm would be better yet! Now were talking.

What’s the torque spec on the Yamaha primary cover bolts?!! Better re check mine!
