They're most likely going to say that you had aftermarket weights in the sled and you're on your own. See yaMan you are one lucky man,wow that's bad,i wonder what yamaha is going to say to this?? What tune you running, and any idea roughly what PSI motor was at when this happened.

Remember, the weights are farther out from crank center on the sidewinder than the other Yamahas. The weight needs to be longer. I agree it looks as though the weight passed the roller….

Why would Yamaha have anything to do with it. Aftermarket tune and clutch kit, not gonna happen you want to play your gonna pay. I'm just glad no one got hurt.

A friends Winder just did the same thing! Not positive but I think Dalton weights and has run 300hp tune on an occasional radar run. 2,000mi on the sled, rollers were good. I’am told clutches are considered a wear item like a belt and not covered?

Damn.....seems like more and more clutches coming apart.
How much HP/tune?
Switching over to a TEAM is more and more on my mind.

7300 miles. Thunder Racing clutch kit. I was doing 120 mph across a lake and this happened. Debris broke my secondary too and air box and hood. Pieces went right through my upper clutch guard.
Regardless of whether this clutch failure is from weight tips going beyond rollers or sheave failure from weight pressures, it is a failure that would, and likely has, occurred at full shift when the primary has completely reached its max travel and the weight pressures are at their highest and are now climbing as RPM rises.
One way to avoid this kind of failure is to ensure your sled is geared high enough that the clutches never reach full shift.
Example: If your sled is capable of reaching 12o mph ensure its geared for 130mph. The manufactures, particularly Yamaha, have been over gearing sleds for some time now to prevent full shift and keep belt speeds at a survivable level.

This isn't a warranty item for me. Not Yamaha's fault. I was doing a top end run and it was perfect conditions which is rare here because we have too much snow normally. I think I definitely ran out of gear. What do you guys recommend for a primary clutch setup? I had the Evo 260 hp tune and Thunder Racing kit.

My .02 is these clutches are flexing, fateaging and eventually they will break! I’am thinking when i tune mine I will at the very least run the 911 billet cover. That will make the clutch much more rigid.

Im on there all the time, still have not seen any. So please give link and not just speculation. I know about the warranty crack in 17, and PRE 17 TEAM issues, but if you go there now they are all mostly happy.Cat forums are loaded with pics of exploded Team primary's.... There are way way way more issues with YAM clutches, and belt life then TEAM period.

A lot of HP ,gearing out and holding it for long distances is recipe for disaster. Gear higher if your gonna hold it. Hey also a lot of guys bragging how many miles they get on a belt like 2000 or more miles, have you ever measured width of the belt? They get thin below min width, high HP , I have 270r, 1000 miles I have measured and was at the minimum tolerance
