Primary clutch exploded

Well that rules out the clutch weakened and cracking from blown belts then.

Yes, the recalled clutch Team I've heard of one letting go, but recall was more an issue from the belt deflection post bearing seizing up I thought. I have a NEW replacement Team clutch here and it is 2 lbs heavier than a Yamaha SideWinder Primary. Steel spider too! Wide rollers (50 % wider) and no clutch rattle either.

Are TEAM clutches available for purchase? If so, do you have a link?

I just put a post over there Dan. Lets see how many have any info about blowing Teams on the 998.

I'm wondering how many belts the OP has blown on this machine also? IMO too many blown belts could weaken and crack the sheave in those weight areas, afterall it is enough to drive the stub shaft over and out of alignment. Something to consider, but think about all the belts some have blown and you don't see their clutches coming apart like this. Doesn't add up that the clutch is weak with all of them out there, and all that have blown belts. I still think myself the weights rolled over the rollers here. Who knows.
I agree Mike.....Slamming sheaves upon hard blow/snap must be very hard on parts. This particular case may very well be simply due to HHs.

Not saying TEAMs are the ultimate perfect clutch, just thinking they are a better choice then YAM at this point. And by far cheaper then going aftermarket.

Well, I have researched this and very close to a swapover...just wanted to give my YAM setup one more try first though.

I dont want to post number as its a killer deal and I want it...lol . (PM me)

Now, you must understand.....If you want the easy clutching setup to simply use Cat clutching and not be experimenting, you would need the TEAM secondary also, and for that you then also need CAT Jshaft.

For me, I would first set it up with the stock YAM torsional secondary, to see how it would work out. Mike has shown this, and mentioned the specific items that it may need, to be setup to work this way and may take some testing.

Got it, thought it may be a bolt on type system with minor tweaking.

1 roller missing the other is still there but you can see it’s worn out, see how it’s much smaller than the washer, hanging loosely. The bushings are probably very loose. The heavy hitters run right out to the tip of the weight, they are very short. If the rollers are loose the weight will go past the roller with catastrophic results.
Check you rollers often!

HA HA, some people are watching this thread for sure. I was looking at a new Team primary on Ebay from Country Cat and it sold while I was looking!!!
Still, under $500 for a new one is a reasonable price compared to other high end clutches if it works........

And I'm sure there are plenty of new take offs for good deals out there as well.
Always check with local dealers for stock items that people change out brand new.
Tracks, windshields, seats, skis, shocks, etc.

LOL, Ive been looking for take off/used TEAM for 9 months, not one....Got posts all over asking on HCS too.

Lucky there is a good cheap solution for NEW Un-calibrated ones. But still need to buy Daltons again, since obviously my current Dalton spring and weights are for my YAM primary.

Just a thought! I was told today by a reputable source that the movable shiev on the Winder clutch has webbing removed compared to a viper clutch? Any one have one to compare side by side? If so any older Yamaha clutch would likely be stronger and a viable candidate would it not? Yamaha clutches have been holding big power longer than any other OEM clutches.

It may have been the pre 17 ones that I saw. But I did see a number is blown up Team Primary’s on HCS. I will look up links when I have a min.
I believe pre 17 clutches cat used,at least on my 13 cat were there owne design cat clutches similar to old stlye comet clutches.
