Thanks! I sorta assumed this but wanted to be certain. So I get it now.You are correct your phone has to be within Bluetooth range (pocket, dash) to datalog whenever you are seeing live values you are recording and can hit the save button to save a datalog. The datalogs are recorded on the phone not the flasher. I hope that answers your question. If not I’ll try and clarify better
I think im leaning toward a simple setup with iPhone(Got a new iPh-X on order) in a waterproof case, that would be closer to my face, similar to my GPS setup on the crash pad. And if one wanted to run it more permanently, could just hard wire it in and also include a warming pad, which would be perfect as a full time setup. This way you dont lose/move the stock gauges and no need for such a large screen as its alot closer to eyes, same as my GPS being close easy to see and tap on screen.
Not sure if you can buy the heating element separate, but this gives you the idea of a simple heating element(maybe a heated grip element under the foam insert) all inside a clear view waterproof type case, mounted to the riser with a ram ball or garmin G8 ball.....very easy to do.

iPhone 'plus' size waterproof case- for live data
The other case I posted looks similar to this, but found some bad reviews on it popping off. I then read a review saying that it was a cheap knockoff of the "ARKON" case. So I googled ARKON and found them. These have a positive mount system, and set screw so they cannot pop off. They also have a spot at bottom to run out your power cable if you are going to power it up that way. It also has a Garmin Ball mount system(last pic below), so you could swap this onto a garmin Ball size quickly. Price sure is not bad either!
They make several sizes, but this one in particular is good for the larger phones up to the 7PLUS size. They come with two foams(4th pic below) that are diff thickness, so a smaller phone uses thicker foam ect....
For longer rides, I would think a heated grip element or something like the heat pad above from BRPs riser bag, could be placed behind the foam so not tight against phone..and it would keep that bag warm for sure.
I could see this mounted to a Ram/Garmin Ball mount on riser for those like me who run riser rather upright. Or simply use the handlebar mount as it comes ready to clamp on to the bars easily. You can swivel this case to portrait or landscape.
