100% SKIDOO YAMI BLOWS
No Ice Roads, No Dirts... Just Snow!! Oh and not 5 miles WOT. I got 2 15's, 1 DX and 1 SE short tracks that in my opinion are very quick out of the hole but are pigs past 75. Both sleds do 84mph on a 1 1/2 perfect snow conditions rail bed..... Rode with a group of 9 sleds saturaday we get a good hole shot, minus the 800 etech, but at 75 its like im riding a 500 fan cooled sled??? 13,000 for this!!!! My 1997 formula 500 skidoo was faster top end. I ride trails and fields so 84 which was over a mile isnt cutting it!! The dealer said its the clutching...so you want me to dump more $ into a 13k sled that already is a stone? I see you guys getting faster speeds minus the LE, whats the deal???? To be honest my 2012 XRS 600 walks past both of em... Overall i have to express that i think this sled is way over rated compared to other on the snow, on a scale of 1-10 i give this sled a 3 right now. Not just for speed , suspension adjustments, suspension period, fuel milage, tuner skis sux!!. Im very pissed about $25,000 worth of 2 vipers that dont go very well.

welcome to the club!!!!!!!!!those sleds will never get 100mph in trail condition and it's not in the clutching, the engine just not have hp.

I don't get it. My 14' LTX SE stock was getting a strong 94 mph last year and with just the Ulmer clutch kit and 8dn belt I'm seeing 96- 97 mph on hard packed snow this year with a strong pull all the way to 90 mph. Going to do the air box mod and exhaust for next season to get a little more out of it. Couldn't be happier with this TRAIL SLED. I'm only 170 lbs. fully dressed and the suspension kicks #*$&@ on the beat up trails. It's a great sled for what it is made for.

I'm with "fx-treme"! My 15' LTX DX did GPS confirmed 93 mph stock out of the box after only about 300 miles of break-in, and I am (unfortunately) 235+ all my gear. The Tuners are not perfect, a little push in the corners, but overall, it is the BEST TRAIL SLED I have ever ridden. The obvious answer is that our sleds were secretly built in Japan, and not Thief River Falls, Minnesota!

Guess you should have stuck to your skidoos then!!! I have a 14 rtx that Ive only got to 84mph. But you know what Im good with that . Bought the sled to ride trails not for triple digit numbers. It cracks me up with everyone so worried about how fast these sleds go. Its a rough trail or TRAIL SLED. If you have read this forum for the last year you would know these sleds are not speed demons. Will agree on gas mileage. It sucks!! I get just as good out of my old 97 triple yami

Love my RTX but I recognize it's a trail sled. Best trail performance I've seen in sleds yet. I did not buy it for 100MPH and have not made any upgrades yet. I will add the Excell Can/Airbox/and clutch change and I think, based on spec sheets, I will be totally satisfied at that point with performance.

Snow conditions play a huge role on this chassis for speed.

Riding in the UP of Mich with my wife this season. One trail, loose fluffy type snow top speed was in the mid 80's mph for speed.
Turn on to a different trail. Had a better harder base. Now the sled is hitting in the low to mid-90's mph.
On near perfect conditions, hard icy road. Sled pulled 102 mph.

I do like the DX better, the SE is a horrible sled to adjust and dial in. Im over the 300 mile mark and 84 is all these 2 will think of going, the DX might go a bit more on hard pack but the SE is a Toilet in my opinion, in fact its sitting under the cover with 3** miles on it while we ride the DX and my 2012 Skidoo XRS. The sleds brand new with a 5 year warranty, now i gotta try and sell it:dunno: Im done with the idea of dumping alot of $ to get the speed up and to revalve shocks on a sled that rides like something that came out of the 80's. Thats why i payed more for SE!!!! Sorry our DX is a solid sled so far minus its pathitic speed, but my rear skid on my Skidoo is 4 years old and its 10x better than the vipers? From what i read it was a great skid... Not trin to bash but just not liking The SE at all and the DX is solid minus the speed.:whine:

First, both our Vipers were pigs until 300 to 400 miles they are supposed be....break in..... especially bad the first 100 miles. But it is break in and they are not supposed to be fast the first couple hundred miles.

Second, yes Yamaha dropped the ball on the clutching. Buy a kit or if you are not wanting to dump money into it go the cheap route (less than 200 bucks) and go this way - http://www.ty4stroke.com/threads/clutching-on-the-cheap.129971/

Third, my Ski Doo buddies like to ride my Viper every chance they get and Danny is trying to get the money up to trade his XP in on a mountain Viper. Mine has a few mods like homemade air box mod, clutch mentioned and 269 dollar MBRP can and even geared down

Fourth, NOS-PRO here on the forums has an XTX Viper with a 153 2.25 lug track and goes near 100 MPH anywhere he wants. Air box mod, clutch, and Can. Lots of guys hit near 100 with clutch only mod.

And lastly, if top speed is all you want put a turbo on as many do.

Not trying to sound unfriendly if it came out that way just trying to help.

My Vipers have 1500 and 2300 K on them. So the one with 2300 especially should be broke in and that means Engine, Clutch and track everything should be broke in by now.
You throw any very able at it and it changes, change temperature, change trail condition, even go from cloudy to the sun comes out and it changes. I don't understand it.
My Nytro was consistent from o to minus 30 and if it wasn't, the change was so incremental I couldn't notice it.
These things are not consistent from 1 o'clock to 1:30.
Don't get me wrong I love the ride, the handling, the seating position, everything but engine inconsistency.

No no not at all, i thx you for the info...i'd love to have a can but in NH the fish cops bang us 24/7 for moding the exhaust. So this clutch kit is it something you made up? Or a kit from someone else. The kits ive put on my doo's were 300 ish, so im curious about this??

You could always do the cheap clutching and add a header that mounts to stock exhaust this way no trail fines.

Our red Viper has clutch mod and air box mod with stock exhaust and is light years better than how it came off the floor.

Yeah I am with this guy...coming of a doo 1200 ,I love the way my LTX DX performs, I see 96 mph regularly and am not fully broke in yet, only seeing 8800 -8850 rpms, clutching is all stock, and it rides and handles a little better then my XR 1200 did, never seen such a difference in range of performance before with the same pile of parts
