So when you add a washer to bring the belt up higher which sheave moves?Look at it this way. When you remove belt deflection washers the helix is pushed in more causing the clutch to sit open more while stopped lowering the belt.
By adding washers will allow the clutch to close more while stopped so the belt will sit higher in the secondary.

That seems like a bunch of rotating mass i wouldn't want on my clutchI'm running darn near same setup as OP but I like the BOP adjuster, so when I blow a belt I can use the adjuster as a belt change tool, and also it adjusts deflection perfectly. No need for shim washers, just the 4 washers Travis sent with the long bolt.
All my info here:

Large fender style washer to stop float is 35-36mm OD X m10 ID.(approx 2-3mm thickness)
I also use an Apex shim overtop of the float plug, to dial in the float and not side load the bearing.

Use the outer sheave to measure offset on secondary not the inner if you are measuring the offset by the Yamaha manual.

Incorrect.....the moveable sheave is never used to measure offset. That should be quite obvious.Right that's the same sheave used to measure offset!

You will never have a consistent measurement going off of a moveable sheave.
And I do know manufacturer's have put it in their service manuals that way, which is dumb.

In years past Yamaha used to measure offset from the inner sheave. However, using an Apex as an example, this was to be checked with stock 1mm washer on the bolts, and bolts that had no wear on the tips. Changing to taking the measurement from the outer sheave is the right move, eliminating potential mistakes/errors.

The manual isn't very clear on belt deflection i re checked and had 3 washers on the secondary bolt 2.5mm i took the .5mm out and everything is back to normal no float again .Does this mean we are only allowed 2 washers total for deflection with a max of 2mm?You will never have a consistent measurement going off of a moveable sheave.

Makes sense if there is no circlip in front of the bearing, but if the circlip is in place, there will be no side load on the bearing. Just wanted to throw that out there.
