again i will mention, i have a low milage motor for sale if someone destroys one of these and its not warrentied.
Re: chaim
Sorry to hear that! From what I was told, it is going to break eventually. And it will wreck the whole motor. Hope you can find somebody to replace the part so you don't get stranded on the trail!
brian m said:Well Bob Weaver called me back and no way they are replacing the spring . He read the bulliton and called yamaha and he said no. So I guess I am out of luck, Hope she holds together!

I have an '06 RS Nytro, with 4560 miles on it, and it had the extended warranty on it when I bought it this spring. I just got off the phone with Nelson's Speed Shop in Grennville ,Mi. and they said bring it in, and it would be covered under the warrany. So in a day or two, I'm going to be taking it up there. I live near Detroit so its not a bad drive. Its the only dealer any where near me that would fix it under the warranty.

Well my dealer, Great Escapes in Traverse City is no more which sucks because I was going to have it done there. Anybody know a dealer around northern Michigan that will perform this repair????

Well after trying a few other Yamaha dealers to see if this could get fixed it doesn't sound like any of them are going to do this swap unless the machine is in warranty. Sounds like time to finally let the old '05 go and jump into a new sled and I hate to say it but probably not a Yammie after this experience.

The sad part of this is, there are dealers that don't want any part of this even if you do have the extended warranty.
After talking to a lot of Yamaha owners, and doing a lot of reading here on the site ( lots of good info here), it looks like the way to go, is to get the extended warranty when you buy a new or left over sled, or if you get a used sled, try to find one with some warranty left. At least you will have some piece of mind for a while, and give your wallet a break.

Just got off the phone with Yamaha Customer Service (1-800-962-7926)
and was informed that Yamaha will cover 2007 models only.
Way to back your product Yamaha!

Ya, but what about us with the 06? I bought my Yamaha for the reliabilty. If it blows up because of this I will go back to Ski-Doo the next day. No trying to sound like a puttz, but thats the way it is. I bought my sled as a leftover, not knowing of this issue. Bummer.........

Didn't say - I think they are but call that number to make sure.
What pisses me off is they knew about this long before Jan 09, they knew at least in 07 - otherwise there would be no reason to do a re-design for 08 models!
They should replace all the Inferior units in good faith - This is not a handwarmer problem or a host of all the little crap we have to contend with on these machines - this will basically total your sled if it fails!
I don't think it is fair to the consumer that we have to cough up $700.00 to $800.00 to correct their mistake - these machine were the most expensive to begin with, kinda expected to get the quality I kept hearing about.
I bought a Yamaha for one reason - I would never have to worry about the motor - Will I buy another Yamaha after the way they handled such a large engine issue they knew about..............
I own a 2006 Vector, and found out about this issue when Cena posted about getting it fixed at Sheboygan Yamaha, and that is where I bought my sled.If I am not mistaken,Cena said they will replace the tensioners in Vectors that have the bad one in them, and Yamaha would cover it.I called them ,and they said only if it is making the noise they make when the tensioner is going, and then they would replace it,regardless of warranty.I also called Glen Curtiss motor sports in West Bend WI. and they said just about the same thing, and by the way both dealers talked, not all these tensioners are going to fail. How many people on this site have owned these Vectors since late 2004,and have had a tensioner fail? This is the first I heard of it,and I think if the tensioner was bound to fail in most of these Vectors,Yamaha would recall all of them.Maybe they are all bound to go at high mileage. If they are allgoing to fail,I think it would be a disaster for Yamaha.

Took both of mine to the Sheboygan Yamaha Dealer. They said both were fine, and that at this time Yamaha is only replacing noisy ones. Not great news but he said Yamaha will cover when ever or were ever it starts making noise. I have 05 Vector, and a 06 Nytro. Hope there right. Wish they would just replace it dont want to trash a motor!

Don't know why Dealers have a different story than Yamaha Motor Customer Service! - after all its Yamaha Motor who will be picking up the tab - Call Yamaha Customer Service (1-800-962-7926) and see if they tell you something different than they told me.

Re: camshaft cain tenioner
That is really interesting, because I took mine (05' Vector) there (Sheboygan Yamaha) in April or May and they replaced mine. I' am out of warranty and mine was not making the noise. I can't remember who I talked too, but he told me to let people know they can bring their sleds in and they would replace the part. Someone from Canada called them when I first posted, and they told him they would replace it also. Strange.
