well i have to hand it to snowfever his suggested clutching for the the mountains worked fantastic, two of us climbed turbo hill to the top even tough the snow was setup pretty good it was something we couldn't do last year and we played for two days in behind turbo after climbing over the top,all untouched powder.how come nobody goes there it is terrific sledding.met climbmax and their friends at the bouldercabin with their turbo's and watched them racing, absolutely insane.they did some great work on their sleds.nice meeting you guys.when we down the veideman trail my sons sled just quit.motor seized?lots of oil, antifreeze, ran superb all weekend,so what gives?primary turns counterclockwise to easy turning to the right is impossible,so what's up?apparently yamaha has a technical bulletin out asking mechanics to put locktight on the bolts which hold the gear on the starterclutch in behind the oiltank.this is if mechanics have to go in behind there for whatever reason.apparently this can cause significant damage.we will have a look today now the sled is thawed out.we like to thank the owners of smokey bear camping and resort in revelstoke with their bed and breakfest, for a party of seven 30 dollars per night canadian and a breakfest fit for a king, thanks olymp and joanne.well maybe somebody will have some suggestions what could be wrong with this sled.oh yeah my daughter just gave birth to a 9 lb 3 oz baby boy,so that's our second grandchild and one to come in february.evrybody have a great day.paparattler

re quit dead in its tracks
we found out what was the problem, the starter was totally fried.we are not sure what happened, but our dealership is talking to the yamaha rep,and because nobody has any recolection that something like this happened before they think yamaha will look after the cost and repair, they also checked the starter clutch any everything looks fine.so i should know fairly quick what's up.new starter costs over 400 dollars canadian.paparattler

There was a post a few days ago about the starter on the 04 being different than the 03. I assume he had a bad starter too.

Here is another post:
http://www.rx1.info/viewtopic.php?t=257 ... ht=starter
The verdic was... a faulty seleniod which kept the starter engaged which in turn ran down the battery & killed the engine !!!!!!!!!![apparently this was the third warrior with this faulty selenoid & fried starter] Is this an 04 fault? Anyone else hear of this? I didn't hear the starter did not disengage/Iguess it is hard to hear with the engine running, but you can bet I will be paying special att'n from now on.
Anyone hear of this happening this year????

those screws on the starter gear, to flywheel came loose on mine, when it was BRAND NEW, 0 miles. Then, the parts weren't available yet, I cobbled it together for the rest of last year to ride, and only just replaced the parts, last spring. Starter gear and drive problems are all too common on four strokes.

Paparattler, I see you found the problem (which is good news) but I was going to suggest something I read in SnowTech. On page 39 of the Dec 2003 issue "If you encounter a RX-1 engine that is shutting off or suffering from strange elecrical gremlines, one documented cause is if the electrical system is over loaded due to installed accessories."
Never heard anyone complain about it this board, but the magazine indicates it is documented issue on the RX-1.

The RX1 does not like 100 watt bulbs this could cause ignition miss, also check for chaffed wiring in the front bulkhead right hand side and the steering post.
There has been no update on faulty solenoids ,you would hear the starter motor running if it should stay running.
He Rattler say hi to nikki and here new baby
have a nice day

good morning suisse sledder there are no electrical accessories on this sled and the selenoid seems to be in good shape, however maybe we should be looking at replacing it,just in case.this sled is truly running awesome and getting better,1300 kms on the odometer, all mountainsledding,i guess she is still loosening up.from what we see on the mountain the rx1-mountain IS and WILL BE the sled on the mountain and the people who have owned the sled for over one year now have done enough little changes now to compete with any other sled.the power is silky smooth.he welcome NEWBIE your advise on this forum will be greatly appreciated we respect your rx-1 expertise.paparattler

well have the sled back home.have to thank yamaha for putting warranty on the starter even tough the sled was of warranty.saving 450 dollars really helps out,now i can replace the a-arms after hitting a big rock on frisbee ridge.riverside yamaha is going to have to pull up their socks after trying to charge me 5 hours for labour to change the starter and have a peek at the middle gear of the starterclutch.yamaha allows 2 hours for that, they finally brought it back to 3 and a half hours, which was better.but this could chase away customers, its arrogant to assume you can charge customers whatever you want.paparattler

Just talked to my dealer..engine locked up because a con rod bolt fell out. Sound like they are covering it with a new crate motor, warr ran out at the end of october. Dealer said the bolt had been bouncing around for a while, even cracked the cases.
