Great posts rxrider. I checked out your location on the net, beautiful country. We are having the same snow conditions here. We have just as much snow now as we usualy get all year. It's awsome but we are also getting the cold temps also. It has been bouncing between -30c and -42c for the past 5-6 weeks with the odd day of warmer weather. It was -32c last night but the forcast says -9c on friday and snow. going to take a ride to the closest town (135km buy road and 100km by sled)to get an A&W burger and take advantage of the warm temps.
I never got in on this years milage challenge but unofficialy I have close to 300 miles on already this year (odo 15200 miles aprox) with 200+ to come on friday.

We're also at yearly snow cover already, actually we were at the annual average snow Level early December. We had a few weeks of temps hovering around 0C starting the second week of December. Some days up to +3 to +4C other days Down to -3 to -4.
Today we have 0C temps With forecast for tomorrow at -13C and -19C on Saturday.
Coldest temp so far was -19.6C on December 6.
Usually the Coldest period of Winter starts around January 20 and lasts for 3-4 weeks on average With temps below -15C and Down to -30C on the coldest days.

Yes it's great, the kids love riding no matter snow, Wind or shine
It's also a safety item riding on the endless Plains on the tundra. If weather goes crazy we can climb in the Nila and wait out the blizzard. I have not used it for survival to this day, but I know of People who survived huge storms and blizzards in Our Mountains.

Wanted to ride the sled up to the cabin. Wife and kids drove the car up the valley, I rode the sled.
Fired up the sled, getting ready to ride.
The Brennelva river have no snow on it, it's all Down to ice. Luckily I run studs.
We have not had any snowfall for the last 6 weeks or so.
We have good snow in the forest but the lakes and rivers are blown free of snow.
The lack of snow on the river have caused the river to freeze completely, this causes water to come up everywhere, like seen in this pic.
Entering Lake Gagga.
As you can see the snow has blown off the lake.
It's glare ice over a lot of the lake surface.
One good thing, the lake ice is getting thicker With no snow insulating the ice from the Cold air.
Up at the cabin on lake Gagga.
Hooking up the Nila sleigh before picing up wife and kids Down at the parking lot.
The NeXT day we lit up a Campfire outside the cabin.
It was quite windy so we did not roast any Food.
We had a great time outside With the kids.
Wifey working on the Campfire.
I worked a hand saw and cut up Three Birch tree logs.
I needed the exercise for sure.
Wife and kids playing
We went for a short sightseeing around the lake visiting a few friends at another cabin.
End trip.
End odo.
Great to be up on the cabin. The days are getting longer With good light until around 4 PM.
Arrived at home around 5 PM, it was dark outside.

February 15th - Travelling to the USA to join the Maine 2014 ride.
First leg was flying from Lakselv to Tromsø where I changed from flying With Widerøe to Scandinavian Airlines SAS.
On route to Tromsø.
Second leg was flying South to Oslo where I stayed the night waiting for my flight to New York.
Arriving in Oslo Gardermoen Airport in a Blizzard.
Third leg startet on Sunday February 16th flying from Oslo Gardermoen to Newark Liberty International Airport outside New York, USA. I took a Shuttle bus and arrived at LaGuardia International Airport the same day.
Fourth leg started from LaGuardia on Sunday February 16th.
It took me from LaGuardia to Philadelphia.
Finally the Fifth leg was taking me to Bangor International Airport in Maine.
I'm waiting for my flight North to Bangor in Maine.
Having a Cold one or several as my flight was delayed more than an hour.
I picked up my sled at Gary's Yamaha in Caribou, Maine, one Monday February 17th.
Here's a few pics from Gary's Yamaha.
The 2014 Yamaha SR Viper.
The 2014 Yamaha RS Vector LTX.
Outside Gary's Yamaha in Caribou.
Start odo on the 2014 RS Vector LTX With EPS rental - holy moses..... brand New With only 5 miles on it
Loaded the sled on Bob's trailer, heading for Eagle Lake.
The Vector outside Bob's house.
Sunset at Eagle Lake.
We did not ride the first day. We checked engine oil and chaincase oil on both the rental and Bob's Vector to make sure they were ready for the ride the NeXT day.
Later that evening Bob's friend TJ arrived after a 10 hour drive from upstate New York.

Trailmap of Aroostook County - The Crown of Maine.
Bob aka Hondo made this map for me.
He marked the trails we rode each days with a color to make it easy to track our rides.
Each color correspond to a certain day like shown in the pic below.
Start odo.
Getting ready to ride, warming up the sleds.
My sled to the left, Bob aka Hondo in the center, and Thomas Johnstone Jr. aka TJ to the right.
TJ was one of Hondo's pace setters and ride buddies during the 2008 Guinness Record run for the 60 day snowmobile Journey.
Bob rode 12163 miles during 60 days from January to March 2008.
The record still stands unbeaten
We rode to Eagle Lake. TJ had to buy Maine stickers for his sled.
In the parking lot outside the Municipality building.
We entered ITS85 North and rode to the Sno-Birds snowmobile Club house at Carter Brook.
We rode ITS85 North through Fort Kent and Frenchville towards Saint Agatha.
At the intersection on ITS81B/ITS83.
The trails are absolutely beautiful, smooth, what can I say... the trails are Perfect.
This is why I come all the way from Norway, Europe to ride on the best trails there is, anywhere bar-none.
We're taking a break at the intersection ITS85/ITS83.
We rode through Saint Agatha, past Lake View restaurant, Down ITS83 before we stopped at Saint Peter's Country Store between Mud Lake and Cross Lake.
TJ is riding a 2007 Apex GT to the left. Bob is riding a 2012 Vector LTX EPS.
We entered the railbed on ITS105.
Rode through Washburn before entering ITS83.
We entered ITS88 where we stopped for a short break on top of a hill.
Bob and TJ.
We spotted a coyote at the bottom of the hill.
Hard to see on this pic, but it's the dark dot to the left of the trail in front of the forest.
Somewhere on ITS88 heading for Ashland.
TJ.
Bob.
We stopped for fuel in Ashland.
From Ashland we rode North on ITS85 towards Portage.
We stopped at Dean's Motor Lodge in Portage for lunch.
Great Food
Riding North on ITS85.
Back at Bob's Place in Eagle Lake.
End trip.
End odo.

Initial break in was done before lunch when I rode the first 100 miles.
Had to hold the sled at or below 6000 RPMs for the first 100 miles.
After 100 miles I could ride normally, but had to keep it below 8000 RPMs.
We had Bob's special Soup for dinner, made from Venison meat.... Bob's Secret recipy.
Real good, I love it.

We're warming up the sleds. It's a cold morning even though it's overcast.
Bob and TJ are still inside the garage.
TJ is ready to ride.
Bob's sled is warmed up.
All systems up and running
Ready to ride.
We rode North fram Eagle Lake on trail 96 to trail 73 to Fort Kent.
From Fort Kent we rode east on ITS85 to Frenchville where we headed towards Saint Agatha on trail 81B and then Down South on ITS83 to the gas station at Saint Peter's Country Store where we got fuel.
Fuel prices.
Weather are clearing up, sun is breaking throug the clouds.
Our sleds.
We rode back up ITS83 to Long Lake before we entered ITS81 heading towards Van Buren.
Somewhere on the ITS81 on Our way to Van Buren. TJ is shooting a few pics at the view over Saint John Valley.
We rode up to the top of a hill where a large Group of riders had stopped for a break.
Our sleds on the hill.
We took a shortcut where ITS81 makes a detour Down towards Grand Isle and Lille, the trail is not marked on the trail map, but I Guess it's trail 98B or trail 96. We saved a few miles and entered ITS81 and continued towards Van Buren.
Filling up in Van Buren.
My sled's Maine sticker.
It's a lot easier to put on a sticker like this
In Norway we have regular plates, much like on cars.
From Van Buren we rode down ITS81 headin for Hamlin.
Past Hamlin we entered the part of ITS81 that runs down the border between USA and Canada.
We're heading for Limestone.
On the border.
TJ is barely inside Canada.
The sled are barely inside USA.
Canadian farm Fields.
I'm trespassing on Canadian soil LOL
The border trail was rough from Hamlin to Limestone because of Heavy Winds making big drifts and the lack of grooming on ITS81 from Hamlin and South.
From Limestone we headed west on ITS81 and then west on ITS90 to Caribou.
ITS90 was perfectly groomed and absolutely superb smooth and Nice. Great work done by the groomers
In Caribou we headed North on ITS83. Also perfectly groomed
We rode North through New Sweden and Stockholm before we entered ITS105.
We took left from ITS105 onto trail 79 towards Long Lake.
We rode across Long Lake to the Lake View Restaurant in Saint Agatha.
View of Long Lake, Bob and TJ outside Lake View Restaurant.
From Long Lake we took trail 81B to Frenchville where we entered ITS85 on Our way to Fort Kent.
We filled up at John's in Fort Kent.
From Fort Kent we rode trail 73 to Lake Road Grocery near Soldier Pond.
I had to buy beer LOL
We rode the last few miles South on trail 96 to Eagle Lake.
End trip.
End odo.
Home at Bob's Place.
Bob cooked one of his specials, Moose Tenderloins.
Preparing the meat.
The meat is perfectly cooked
Served With baked potatoes, vegetables, sour cream and A1 sause.

He marked the trails we rode each days with a color to make it easy to track our rides.
Each color correspond to a certain day like shown in the pic below.
We started the day With one of Bob's breakfast specials.
Start odo.
Overcast, a few inches of fresh snow.
Bob and TJ.
We're ready to ride.
We rode North on Trail 96 and turned left onto Trail 73 past Soldier Pond where we headed east on Trail 73C.
We entered Trail 73B and took to the right onto Trail 81B to Saint Agatha.
We continued across Long Lake onto Trail 79.
A short stop on the trail.
TJ.
TJ and Bob.
We continued South on ITS105 past Stockholm. We took ITS 90 to the South west towards Portage.
Stopped at Coffin's General Store in Portage.
From Portage we rode ITS85 South to Ashland where we filled up.
The clones
The weather cleared up and we got sunshine.
Bob is a happy camper
From Ashland we rode South on ITS85 towards Masardis.
We took to the east on ITS81 at Squa Pan Lake.
The trail has not been groomed this Winter.
Or plan was to ride ITS81 around the lake to ITS105.
After 3-5 miles we found the reason why the ITS81 hasn't been groomed all Winter.
A logging operation blocked the trail and the roads were plowed. We past a few trucks until we encountered two loaders, one on each side of the road loding two trucks at the time.... we decided to turn around and go back, we didn't want to interrupt the loading operation.
We headed back on ITS81 and ITS85 to Ashland where we turned east on ITS88 to Washburn.
At the intersection outside Ashland.
Outside Washburn we headed North on ITS105, the railbed.
At the Intersection on ITS88 and ITS105.
TJ and Bob.
Selfie on self LOL
We rode North on ITS105 past Stockholm and took to the left on Trail 79 across Long Lake.
Then onto Trail 81B, Trail 73B, Trail 73C, Trail 73 and finally Trail 96 back to Bob's house in Eagle Lake.
End trip.
End odo.
Another great day of riding.

Bob's New barn where he stores his Equipment and the John Deere tractor.
Pic shot from Bob's deck.
View Down towards Eagle Lake, it's been snowing, the trail is covered With New fresh powder.
Bob's property is part of the great Maine wilderness.
Forest and Wildlife is the norm up here in Eagle Lake, it's very much like home where I'm from.
I love living this Close to nature, sure Bob does as well
Bob's John Deere tractor in the Barn.
TJ and Bob in the Barn. We're done clearing the roof of Bob's house.
After the work was done Bob cooked one of his specials for breakfast.

A few pics from the game cam.
Turning the sleds around at the game cam site.
We rode ITS85 to Snow Birds snowmobile Club in Carter Brook.
The Club was established in 1973.
Short break at Snow Birds.
Outside Snow Birds, trail markers and information.
We rode South on ITS85 and turned to the west on Trail 92A heading for Saint John in the Saint John valley.
In Saint John we took right on ITS92 up the Saint John valley towards Saint Francis.
