Last year I had my chain case blow up at 100+ MPH. I got it fixed and now I am having similar problems. When I pull the brake there is alot of free play and it clunks. Not smoot at all. When I took off my belt I can rotate the secondary or brake disc about 2 1/2 to 3 inches. Any suggestions on what broke or what the problem is. This will be two time now. It is starting to pi__ me off.

Just guessing but I'd say your adjuster is WAY too loose. The slop you feel when you move your brake disc (or secondary clutch for that matter) is the slop in the chain. Run the adjuster in with you fingers and tighten it finger tight only and you should have just a little slop back and forth. You want it to rotate smoothly and easily but certainly not be loose enough to let your chain be able to jump teeth on your sprockets under acceleration.
The clunks you are feeling is the chain skipping teeth as you try to bring a substantial amount of weight to a stop. Hopefully you haven't damaged any teeth yet. You might want to check? PB

I was at a dealer and was told of a problem with the jack shaft bearing on the clutch side. there is a tappered bearing that can come loose and cause the shaft to be loose. I was told to retorque the shaft and to thread seal it. I am not sure if that will work but that is what the dealer said to do. I do not have my sled with me, I will be checking that bearing this thursday when I get home. if you have any questions on this ask your dealer because it was in a book of "problems" the dealer had, this book was from yamaha that listed fixes to problems. sorry I can't give you any more info.

I had my secondary fall off, blowing the belt,and the tapered bearing sleeve slid out of the bearing. I thought I might have forgotten to tighten the nut, but maybe it was not my fault. I just pushed the sleeve back in, and used locktite on the threads.

Does your sled have reverse? I only ask because I have alot of play like that but my chain is tight, I believe it is because of the reverse set up that allows for that play. Check your bearing on the clutch side drive shaft, just found out mine is completely shot, making all kinds of noise, 3500 miles and will now have replaced every drive bearing.

I don't have the equipment to scan it, or do I have the book. I wish I did. I will ask if I can buy that book from the dealer.
Yes, my sled does have reverse but this free play seems extreme. About that collar on the jack shaft. Mine came loose last year already and was updated and fixed. If that collar comes loose your secondary will get tight. {no movement in or out] Is there anyone with reverse that could check the free play for me. My buddy has an RX1 without reverse and there is virtually no free play.

I have an 03' RX1 and have reverse, 2" play (+ or -)in my secondary because of reverse, dealer told me months ago it was normal when I questioned it!
Loosen your locknut on the chaincase adjuster, finger tighten the bolt, tighten locknut and you should have the 2" of movement in the secondary.

If you have your chain tightened properly there will be about 2" of freeplay because of the way the bottom gears mesh together. There has to be some slop for the dogs on the reverse gears to line up when you go from forward to reverse. If you don't have that 2" of freeplay youi might have the chain adjustment too tight, Ken.

Thanks for all the input. My chain is probable a touch loose. My dealer told me that this is normal with reverse. Now can any one help me to get this thing to handle a little better. Ski doo ski's no studs. Who has a good set up.
