Normal, the engine braking stops the clutches before the secondary can completely backshift all the way.

Thank you. What belt height above secondary should I shoot for with machined secondary (option 3) and 8DN belt? Also, what should I expect to see for shift out on the primary? Currently, I see a 1/2" of unused sheave surface on the primary.Normal, the engine braking stops the clutches before the secondary can completely backshift all the way.

Belt tension is commonly mistaken for how high the belt rides in the secondary. That method can vary widely as different belt lengths will show different heights. Use this to set your belt deflection https://totallyamaha.com/snowmobiles/aaTECH/belts/beltdeflect.htm
Belt height in the primary sounds like you're getting now shift into the overdrive area of the clutch. Many times that is caused by conditions.

Thanks for the link. When I ran it, I was in the B/C range for track spin.Belt tension is commonly mistaken for how high the belt rides in the secondary. When you said now shift, do you mean low or full shift? When you say conditions you are referring to trail conditions I assume? Sorry for all the dumb questions. lol.
I'm only achieving 84 mph on hardpack and I have alot of belt dust. More than what's normal on these sleds I think. With the machined secondary, should i be seeing more mph than that? The motor is strong and everything down stream of the secondary is in good shape and recently replaced.

Here is a pic of my primary. Hasn't been ran this year. I disassembled it, and it does not move freely up and down like it should. Would this be a bushing issue, and could this cause my issues with top end speed and excessive belt dust?

If it doesn’t move freely with no springs I would check the bushings and sliders.

83/84 tops on trails. Offset at 16mm with 0 washers in the secondary. I'm reading the Machining Information sheet Ulmer sent with the kit, and it says to remove the washers to run the 8JP belt. So i definitely need to add some washers and play with deflection. I've been busy dealing with all of the broken arctic cat driveline stuff on this thing, so I am happy to finally get the time to play with the clutches.

Yes, it will get stuck with the spring out, on the bench. I ordered new bushing and sliders.

For offset on the viper, do I go with the manual spec of 13-16mm to the back of secondary, or do I measure 58-61mm to the front of the secondary like everyone does on the winders?
