We added a new class to the stock sled shootout this year, a category for the long-track snowmobiles. We had three entries, the new Yamaha Apex XTX, the Ski-Doo Renegade E-TEC 800 and the Yamaha Nytro XTX. But it was Yamaha's new Apex besting the others to take the top ¼-mile honors with an elapsed time of 12.053 seconds at a speed of 98.68 mph. The Ski-Doo was second quickest.

Looks like the XTX is a click slower than the old SRX700...back in 2000.

Fast enough for me!

Spent a few hours today running my 128 with a XTX. Both sleds are stock, no studs with the same mileage. All runs were the same result. XTX would pull out 5-6 lengths and at 1000 feet I caught up and passed. Switched riders, same result. XTX jumps out hard like GONE, WTF. From 60mph we were even then I crept away slowly. Conditions were good for the 128 to use all that gearing. These sleds are awesome.

But you had to have been doing atleast 90+mph before you caught the XTX? Next time you run, check your speedo and see how fast you are going when you go by the XTX.

A well tuned broken in apex of anykind will crush any nytro in 1000'. I am talking 2 sleds tuned equally the same.

Turk, I wonder wether he's talking Nytro XTX or Apex XTX?

I would imagine he means Nytro but you never know.

One can't just say XTX anymore!

I thought sx7001 was referring to an Apex XTX?

Apex XTX should walk away from a short track sled the entire distance every step of the way. I'd imagine its a Nytro.

It's a Apex XTX and sorry but the 128 is faster on the big end. Put them on the hard pack and the 128 will win.

That seems a little weird, since I was told the 128 would be faster, but not until the very top end and it was only by 1mph. If you are catching and passing it by the 1000ft mark, that tells me something is not right with the other Apex. If he pulls you by 6 legths out of the whole, I just can't see how you would be able to catch that sled until atleast 110mph mark. Not doudting your claim... Just seems weird...

If you're on a 128" with the Mega I would think you could air down and lower both the rear and front. That should be worth something right?

Nothing weird at all. The XTX has more traction and less gear. It will get the hole shot. This was on hard pack road. If conditions were looser I don't think I could of caught up. The 128 needs hard pack to pull it's gearing. It's like the old Warrior vs RX1 or Apex vs Attack, the shorty won on the big end in the right conditions. I never go by what people tell me when it comes to sleds. I go by what I see.

Alright, the "road" condition clears that up... I don't think you would see that same result on a trail condition or in a little looser condition, so yes, you are right...

Also note that the XTX is only geared down 1 size.

Apex, Apex SE 24/37 70 link chain

Apex XTX 23/37 68 link chain

Even geared taller then the older Apex and Attack.
