People used to do that on srx's with stock helix instead of machining them to get full shift of the secondary. not my favorite idea

Yes, simple method to eliminate coil bind on stock pink spring. Not best practice, but a lot do it. If you install a clutch kit with a different spring (TL Big Venom for example) coil bind is eliminated. Machining spring pocket also works and eliminates coil bind.

Yes remove the washers. Enough people had/have broken stud issues with shimming the helix this way.
Its also hard on the little pads the Helix slides on. Certain Helix's the corner hits. Those washers should be for testing only.

Took them out and it doesnt pull as hard. I have the big venom kit in. Cant get over 95 no matter what. Hit 93 without kit. Only 2 mph better with kit shims and gates 8dn belt...not what i expected. It was hard flat and 10 degrees. 3/4 mile pull and 95 is all she has
What engine mods do you have?Took them out and it doesnt pull as hard. I have the big venom kit in. Cant get over 95 no matter what. Hit 93 without kit. Only 2 mph better with kit shims and gates 8dn belt...not what i expected. It was hard flat and 10 degrees. 3/4 mile pull and 95 is all she has

Rather than hijacking this thread about shimming the helix, I'm am going to recommend you PM NosPro to cover the specifics with weight setup, RPM, secondary wrap, etc. that way you get the best out of your kit. Your LTX has 100+ in it under perfect conditions, just need to get the clutches working right.Took them out and it doesnt pull as hard. I have the big venom kit in. Cant get over 95 no matter what. You need more tip weight. At 9000 you are bumping rev limiter and giving up power. No mods other than the shims, belt and big venom kit setup by them. Im around 9000rpms on long pulls.

My stock 01 srx hit 119 on dream speedo right after so conditions were obviously good. Hard as hell and flat

Starys at 8750 and finishes around 8975...seemed pretty good on rpms to me..You need more tip weight. At 9000 you are bumping rev limiter and giving up power.

Lots of variables, that's why I suggest you PM NosPro. 100 should not be an issue in good conditions. When I was testing, I was slipping the belt. Once I got that under control I got over 100. I don't run the speed setup in everyday riding as I prefer a tighter secondary wrap and better back shift for trail and off trail riding. With that, I would only see 98 on good clean hard pack. Viper is very sensitive to minor changes. Weight needs to be right, secondary wrap, etc and conditions to get past 100.Starys at 8750 and finishes around 8975...seemed pretty good on rpms to me..

Are you running the Gates C12 or actual 8dn. My speed runs were with 8dn
