Oh man, sorry for your problems,so soon, none of us should have any of these problems ever, but they do seem to crop up so often, glad you caught both problems before majore problems.FYI, While doing first good maintenance and inspection on my 2018, I noticed coolant leak on my track. Ended up stripping the sled and found this hose clamp under the small heat shield having like 2 turns loose. Tighten and leak is gone. NOW, 18 miles later, flushed the whole engine oil while riding yesterday... big mess under the hood. Stopped the engine immediately and rope it back to the trailer. Oil every where including clutch side. cleaning and Investigating as we speak. Either loose hose again or maybe the roll over valve. I'll soon know.. (on pic I/ pointing on loose clamp coolant hose in question, it's hidden by fabric heat shield)

I see your posts Rockerdan on tightening the clamps but how do I replace the hose? Still hVe to take seat and tank etc off but not sure there is room even after doing that... thoughts?

You need to drill out the rivets on the rear exchanger so you can slide it back enough to slide a new hose on.I see your posts Rockerdan on tightening the clamps but how do I replace the hose? Still hVe to take seat and tank etc off but not sure there is room even after doing that... thoughts?

this also happened to my buddies 2017 in Houghton and he had to sit in hotel all day because MandM powersports was to busy to fix it on a Saturday morning. cant blame them. So he took it to a local dealer and they made him pay for all the labor to fix it! ouch. They said he must of ran over a big piece or chunck of ice to cause the problem. funny because we were on groomed trails the entire time

Stm full length tunnel protectors are curing the problem for the moast part it sounds like.

In the offseason I am going to make a shroud that will attach to the long tube, there are ears on the bottom of that long tube I think there is enough room there to attach a good thick piece of alum shroud.
But I still think that if the clamps are tight as they should be, it helps hold everything tight together. I think the ones that are getting cut into by ice are being pushed and bunched up then get cut, and also the ice presses up on long tube and then the rubber hose becomes more vulnerable. And since it seems all of these clamps are not tightened properly, this seems to be happening as soon as ice is caught in there. I have heard several times ice in there, and no issue and it very well may be cause I tightened my clamps....
Either way, something should be done to protect these....
So are the PRE 17 models different under the tunnel? I know my 12 was quite abit different but not sure I ever recall hearing about this issue prior to this season.

So The dealer fixed the hose which was 7 bucks but the 7 hours of labor ( 616.00) to take the skid out, drill out the rivets of the exchanger on the top of the tunnel was a lot. They had to do that so they could slide it out to replace the hose. This was the recommended way from the Yamaha rep that happened to stop by the dealer when i dropped off the sled. After looking at the damaged hose and the tunnel that was pushed up from the ice. ( FYI they only rivet the tunnel in the front down with 2 rivets in and no sealant.) So even if you did bounce the sled to get rid of the ice the water in between at night freezes and pushes that up even more. Both my rivets were pulled through the front of the tunnel. Needless to say I will be on with Yamaha customer service tomorrow to complain since this is a design flaw. Especially after i have owned 8 other Yamahas over the years and never had this happen.this also happened to my buddies 2017 in Houghton and he had to sit in hotel all day because MandM powersports was to busy to fix it on a Saturday morning. cant blame them. A previous post here indicated a slider was used as a tunnel protector over the coolant run, and was modified to extend over this rubber hose keeping it from direct impact/compression from ice.
That seems like the best fix.
Asked the question earlier - why is this not happening on the cat 2 strokes. I believe their cooling system is identical.

I installed the STM protectors today and they are now covering the rubber hoses. Definitely the way to go if you have not installed your protectors yet. A plus is they can be removed easily, no epoxy involved.

I didn't think the STM protectors were long enough to reach the front of the tunnel. Can you clarify and let me know if you pushed it further ahead and left a gap at the rear.
Thanks
