Sidewinder Heat Exchanger Hose

That was the problem. I'll see if I can get dumb picture to upload
We're the hose clamps simply loose and hose was leaking, or was the hose punctured/torn in some way? Is front heat exchanger/tunnel pushed up at all?

The heat exchanger must have to be un attached from the tunnel to get the hose back on???

Yes. Dealer in Quebec drilled out most of the rivets in the long cooler tube that comes from the back of the sled. Wrestled a new hose on and riveted long cooler back on. A lot of labor to replace a $3 hose.

Just spent 7 hours replacing this hose, on a saddlebag trip in Quebec. Very cold conditions and dropped a large piece of ice which punctured hose and lost coolant. Very poor design and a lot of work to repair. Lost time, money and inconvenienced other riders in our group, now catching hell from the Ski Doo guys in our group about my superior Yamaha.

You should, and all of you who had this issue report it to Yamaha!

It's embarrassing especially around DOO guys!
Unlike the oil tank on the chain case which is an all CAT design, this was an after thought fix when they shoved this motor into this chassis.
Like i've said all along, it's the "smalls" that make me nervous. Oh well, in summer i will address this issue with Travis' design.

P.S. Travis doesn't have a design yet, but he will!

It should be a recall

I spent the last 14 years riding Ski Doos and only broke down on the trail once from a broken drive shaft in 2008. Buy my first Yamaha since 1998 and it breaks within the first 500 miles. Problem is this could happen again and again. I will take precautions to minimize the ice, but there are no guarantees this won’t happen again. I’m pretty discouraged with this brand new $17000 snowmobile and may be headed back to Ski Doo as soon as possible. Hope Yamaha and AC are reading.

Dont get me wrong. You are right but this weekend on a 200mi ride here in WI I saw ALL brands siting broke down including what looked like a brand new Doo. These sleds are more complicated than ever and nobody tests better than the consumer. Even then everyone rides different. Broke my 07 stock Phazer suspension every weekend but still run into folks who have never had a problem. Bet there are those out there with Doo 800/850's that have never blown a belt. They are snowmobiles. They break. Be as prepared and proactive as possible but prepare for a walk or even camp out in woods. Its all part of the sport and one big reason not all can or will do it. TY is your best defense!
