I know guys with the 190 hp Hurricane kit on their vipers running 121 on gps with gearing, 21/41 I think. Another fella who is on this site (stone88) regularly runs 126/127... Also geared and very well clutched.....so 122 doesn't seem to be out of the question.

In 16 they changed the upper bearing on the viper. I haven't seen any problems posting up yet.my question is is the chaincase gonna explode like a buch of vioers. untill they fix this and can prove to me it feels as powerfull as the apex ill stick to my modded attak

Excited of the new sled, also a little disappointed. 1- finally yammy builds a turbo sled from factory.
2 - 180 hp + and no typical turbo lag as they claim, should be one hell of a stallion.
Disappointment:
1- Arctic cat gets the state of the art engine and what does Yamaha get in return this time, they already had the chassis on the previous Viper deal.
2. Sidewinder is the best sled name available, what the hell. Maybe there s something I Don t know behind the story but Arctic cat did it right with ZR Thundercat.
3. Everyone wants one but who can afford it. We taught Apex s we're expensive.
All and all pretty impressive delivery from Yamaha. Got to wonder what BRP and Polaris are thinking now, they sure have it good with boondocking and mountain sleds for power to weight ratio. Will be a tough one to top the new Yammy turbo in hyperpower sector.

Any idea (theoretically ) which sidewinder model will be the fastest? I'm mainly wondering top end, but thoughts on out the hole would be interesting as well.

Don't forget that it wouldn't be the first time a manufacturer turned the wick up on the demo sleds to get a buzz going..... Yamaha is always liability conscious and I'm not sure sure they are going to deliver 120+ MPH sleds out of the box. Now what you tweak on them after you get them home is another story.

Very impressive in all the details, I like the numbers. all other brands will be jealous and trying to build something similar but nothing compares to a great Yamaha motor.

122 on GPS is a very nice speed out of the box....i guess there will be a ton of us wanting this new sled.
I would assume after reading the PDF that yammie has paid attention to the chaincase knowing the big power will need lots of strength in the gears ect.
Im sure there will be some teething issues as usual but this is no 2s, so at least motor wise thing should be solid. My only gripe will be the handling due to motor not being lower. I would have liked to see that more then anything.
Anyone hear any dry weight numbers? I heard lighter then the 9000 SUK.

I understand your gripe on the motor height and I know you owned a turbo cat, but have you ridden a well set up viper?
The only time mine ever feels tippy or top heavy is rock solid hard pack trails where the skis grab so bad you cant steer.
Thats when i notice it. Otherwise its a non issue for me

Dan please do us a favor and stay on your super duper doo 1200 because if you think the viper cat chassis doesn't handle you are sadly mistaken I have 2 seasons on my turbo viper and rode the new 16 1200 back to back and I'll take my viper all day over that sled. Who recalls the mighty release of the 2003 RX1 (which I snow checked BTW first ever snowcheck) snowmobile mags were saying 122mph out of box. They weren't lying and I saw 120's on my speedo also.......to bad it was off by 10%. GPS was 111-113. So maybe Yamaha "recalibrated" the speedos again (-: Sure hope not.

I think its the same engine. Stroke is the same, bore is 2mm smaller. A man I know said to me some month ago he built a aftermarket turbokit in the 2016 viper, tear the engine apart, and that there were som changes in the 2016 viper engine (not only the connecting rods). He said it seems like the engine is ready for turbo from fabric. Something he said is that it was ready for oil to turbo. And this was the 1049 block.

Assuming we are comparing pound for pound, how would this sled compare against a boosted Apex? If this sled is claiming 122mph, what speeds does a boosted Apex see? I would think the Apex is capable of faster speeds seeing how it is more aerodynamic.

Boosted apex here I see 135-138mph on radar in perfect conditions. In not so perfect conditions, loose snow, new snow, etc. She hits 120 like its nothing. 250hp, 151x13.5" track.
