Sidewinder

Push button reverse. This should be interesting! Watch 'em jumpin' and yankin' on them to get them to shift!

That's a good point, although they'll probably make it work. I've never understood the need or want of a push button reverse on a mechanical reverse system. The mechanical lever is intrinsically less likely to go wrong than any electronic system relying on a servo to move the bits around. The Apex/Vector (and Nytro?) lever on the right hand side is simple, effective and probably lighter than having a servo. Pushbutton reverse on a 2-stroke that reverses the motor rotation makes perfect sense because the reverse system itself is electronic. Keep it simple, stupid!

dam right guys, anybody complaining now should be shot...cant be a Mitsubishi turbo system!!hands down quality and finally pulled it out huge,i hope cat doesn't leech this motor too...GOOD JOB YAMAHA..CANT IMAGINE WHAT THE APEX REPLACEMENT WILL BE

From chris reids statement earlier i would assume this is the apex replacement
Yes i know they still make the apex. Question is for how long

In the video, they put down the Apex by having the SW beat it, as well as the Viper.

Wow...quite a sled!
IMO: The Viper was an Arctic Cat with a Yamaha engine, clutches, and graffics.
The Sidewinder looks to have a heavy Yamaha influence throughout the sled, even though its not built in Japan...we are seeing the results of the evolution of the agreement between Artic cat and Yamaha.
180 hp stock...just wait until the programmers come out for the ECU on this sled!

You guys do know that push button reverse has been on the viper since day one right? Other than a recall for the 2014 sleds there hasn't been any issue with it. It's a simple system.
I'm curious to know how many of the people complaining in this thread and others have even had more than ten minutes seat time on a viper. I've never owned one but I have ridden Apex's from the early years (2006) to the later models with Exup and Eps. The later models truly are beautiful sleds. But as far as chassis ergonomics and ride go, the viper is an all around better setup. My only complaints with the viper vs the Apex was the engine management system and the power. The Sidewinder just fixed those two issues with the viper, in fact even improved on them over the Apex.
The Nytro made me jump ship, the viper almost won me back. I think the Sidewinder might be the winning ticket.

Totally 100% agree!!!!

Being that Yamaha developed this Engine/Turbo combination as a unit we can pretty well bank on the powertrain being reliable and refined. I would think that prior to any tweeking the HP will fall somewhere just shy of 180hp...175 or so.
From what I've been reading in magazines is that 180 is on the low side of HP, for example if you can only run 87 octane fuel. Amsnow is saying 195hp+ with premium fuel.

anyone know if the gauge cluster has been changed from previous years?

The video says "from the yamaha factory in japan" Does this mean the
whole sled is built there?
It looks alot like a cat to me.
No just the heart of it is made in Japan... Just like the best diesel pickup, GM body with duramax made in Japan
