Looks like that could be the chaincase vent. There is no way to pump oil up to that gear. "Just looked it up on Yamaha parts site it is the breather"

They just need to put a real good bearing in there and there would be no need for a drop drop... of oil.

from the bearings used in the cat ...I found out they are owned by one of the top bearing manufacturers..when speaking to a bearing expert...for our applications ..the quality difference was negligable..and not necessary....IMHO the bearing(s) have failed due to poor manufacturing tolerances and a poor design (cat) ....now as your saying tom...there might be a point there...Im wondering if a sealed bearing in that location would perform better...
Its not that Wobblebearing that Cat uses in there is it?

Yes it is.... Why does that need to be in there?

So what "grade" or "weight" of oil is being used in the chaincase? Adding something clingy that helps the oil to climb a bit could surely help.

thats a good question..the only reason to use a spherical bearing is if movement of the jackshaft is expected i.e. the original cat design with the TCL...since yamaha no has a tunnel-motor-suspension brace with the secondary bearing pocket all in a fixed location...that makes no sense....unless they are trying to use up some of cats parts...?
I looked also. Yup its same bearing. Crap!
Correct me if I am wrong but the Evo TCL delete the cat guys are using also now uses the stock bearing. Is it because the chassis is moving and that bearing is still needed even with chaincase seperated from motor?

The tcl allows the secondary to move for and aft..this necessitates the need for the spherical bearing on the chain case side ...this is essentially a pivot point
Of course but the TCL is removed with the EVO kit on a Cat so the spherical bearing should not be needed. Question is why they still have it?
