Speed Perception....

Pulled this from the archives of running on Rib Lake. God I miss these speeds from my Attak...... Just shows that my Attak with the 136 track did a few mph's better than the Apex and Apex GT's.....

BandistsSRX (Rock Thumbs) 122 on his RTX with .91 track, and 124.6 on a GT with .91 track

I ran 122, 120, 119 then slowed down as the ice softened.

Bob Donahue ran 122 and several 121s

Maybe 3 guys at 120

Terry Burmeister (NOS PRO) 119- and thats with slow ice. Good running Attak.

Bone stock Attaks and APexs were 114-117.

Speeds slowed as temp increased.

Fastest power adder.

Try this on for size...93 on a Brand new Phazer. There were two there and both were high 80s to low 90s. I was very impressed with only a 80 horse motor

Had fun, nice seeing Tom, Terry, Rock, Bob and the rest of the guys.

Now off to Colorado to play in the deep stuff. See ya Friday...BBY

I first showed up at 1:30, and the good ice was gone by then. #$%&*
After a new belt, and some fuel accelerator changes, I was real pleased with the 132mph run.

Pretzel exhaust on the Viper, is a joke.

No with the stock gearing in the XTX 117 is max and it did it on the dyno. I have seen 112 on the speedo and 111 on GPS still had a bit in her but ran out of room on the lake. It is picky on deeper snow 108 is max on packed trail or where groomed trail crossed lake 112. I am still dialing in gems, with 2 of them it is hit or miss and was banging rev limiter at 13#'s so added a bit of clutch weight that seems to have stopped that. I want to change the gearing but am worried I will lose the D&D XF1100 killing low end. I am going to the 3000' shaved ice radar run this Saturday to see what top end really is then make decision on gear change.

The other problem is my nose is still rising to 2' after 40 mph at WOT even with the hygear coupler in it and limiter straps pulled down 3", so the aero dynamics are way off and the power is wasted carrying the nose that high. If you saw my run at Minocqua last Saturday it pulls the skis 12" at launch and half way down the track the column almost came up and hit my face shield and carried them there till the end of the 660' run. It runs straight as an arrow so I don't need the skis but at 2' too much wasted energy and air resistance.
Yamadog to take care of your ski lift well racing slam the rear down tight I had this problem with my cat turbo after slamming it as low as possible the sled was more predictable and went straight instead of up...this platform is made for trail which is does well but for drags not so much

i have not felt that the performance of the viper was impressive compared to my other yamaha powered machines, just didn' t have that hit to it, but i think i have changed my mind after doing some tuning this week. tweeked ulmers clutching and think i have really woke it up, running more like i thought it should. mark is coming to get his sled tonight and see what he thinks, will report back after a little more ride time.

Nope, not it. Changing the direction of the exhaust if done correctly does not hinder flow. The fastest headers in stock car racing are these,

If done correctly, Im not sure the Viper header fits that category. Im thinking summer project of Hindle or Evolution to find some HP.

It's Wild the difference between the stock header and the hindle, I couldn't believe it when I was putting it on, much smoother and larger piping

I was just curious of how many owners would be happy if the speedo was not accurate...and it showed 100MPH all the time on the Viper and you were only really doing 87 or 88... like older sleds.

Was just wondering as the Speedos become more accurate the sleds appear to be slower... look at the 06 to 10 Apex... 12 to 15 MPH off. The Current Apex and Nytros are 5-7 MPH off... the Viper is maybe 1 MPH off... I wondered how many people would be actually thinking the Viper is slow if the speedo was inaccurate.

Thoughts?
Its actually pretty hilarious. We have a lot of Skidoos in my group and they always ask how fast I am going on long straights. When I tell them 90-95 mph they laugh as their 800s are doing 107-110. For me, its not as much about the top end as it is corner to corner. Sure when you get up on to the nice groomed, wide trails you may like to see more, but it really does not bother me. If I wanted top end, I would be on an Apex.

i thought the viper out of the box was fairly decent. the 8jp was not so great, dust, slip, inconsistent speeds. i did the ulmer trail #4 kit and i couldn't believe how much this machine wakes up. i run the 8dn now and yes my top speed is still in the low 90's, but i can hit that on a new belt or the same one at 600 miles and in most conditions. which i couldn't do prior. his clutch setup grabs hard and you can feel the difference. no complaints there.

I think I heard Rock Thums sold his sleds. I did not hear direct from him, but a reliable source. Irrelevant to the discussion, but thought I would mention it.

I know but I was trail riding last week. I do have the hygear coupler in mine now but am slammimg it down both front and rear tonight for tomorrows 3000' shaved ice radar runs.

Just had a report from a very reliable source that the stock AC 5000's are beating the stock Vipers top speeds on lake Minoqua in WI. The Viper owners want to know why. What should I tell them? Its only percieved? This disgusts me.

My buddy rented a ac 5000 last week he said he could only get 83 out of it ! I had to pick it up for him and took it a half mile to the hotel and what a pooch ! Just had no get up and go !
