My 07 Fx ( with 975 miles) has alot of play in the steering..I can move the bars let and right about a .75 inches and forward and back .25 inches. Is this normal??

Welcome to the new Yamaha controls...
More like a Joystick than it is a set of handle bars....
There have been many posts in the past about this issue. There are a few oilite bushing kits that take some play out, but there are other areas that loosen up...

i was concerned about this when i first got my phazer but now i have over 6000 miles and its not much worst,i wouldnt worry about it

Adding grease fittings and Ulmers Bronze bushings to a-arms is a big help. Also check over all the joints in linkage some come loose. Finally the Icing update added more slop to avoid freezing up steering.I may tighten that up but like said when riding the slop isnt noticable at all.
