SteveO Gone

I wouldn’t blame anyone for going to a different sled. I bought a brand new SS440 in 1982 and have owned nothing but Yamaha since. After many great sleds over the years, this is the first time I have second guessed my brand loyalty. Sometimes I think I should have stuck with an Apex. They are more “work” (handling and weight) to ride but much less work in the garage.

One question Steve, did you consult Beerman? Where is he anyway?

Hopefully you still hang around here occasionally.

We'll keep track of you somehow Steve with OCD!

Good luck with the Doo! I think that 600 will treat you real well. They seem to be very reliable. You'll really like that chassis except for the front end, but you'll learn to live with it and will have no worries about the chaincase, bearings or other small issues. Boy are you going to miss the power though, and don't forget to put oil in the oil tank every morning!!!!

Yep totally agree with those that realize just how much maintenance is required to keep one of these sleds on the trail.
One must be vigilant in inspecting and maintaining one of these on a regular basis, with all of the problems previously listed by others. If you don’t believe what people are saying about what to look out for, on most of these, you may find out the hard way.

Good luck with your 600R. I hope Doo Talk is ready for the real OCD one, because ready or not here he comes.
Sure hope that 600 can “take to the bar” adventures, because after being on a Winder that 600 will not suffice on bigger trails, but on those smaller curvy trails, sweetness awaits you Steve! Go get em buddy!!!

I've enjoyed reading your posts! I'd love to hear about the 600r as it's been on my radar. Safe riding!

Maybe Yamaha will eventually develop their own chassis again..... Thats my only hope.

Stay in touch here Steve. Love your posts and insight.

I've learned not to sip morning coffee while reading your post. I end up spitting it all over my bench from busting out in laughter at your humor.

I will miss you Steve. So many of your posts cracked me up. I hope you have better luck with the 600. I dont ride with any of those so I dont have any input. I hate to get off track but the Yamaha does have some issues we all have to address, but to be fair they all do. the xrs shocks are awful from the factory. Every one of my skidoo friends sends them out brand new to Monster to be revalved and shortened. Last year my buddy had a new one and traded for another new one as his blew belts and they are 200 a piece Grip and Rip kit to re align the engine etc and so on. Polaris 850s in my group seem to have worse luck as with engines. Everyone knows you want to be trading in a skidoo 850 before 8K miles as they are trouble. We ride Yamahas and are used to a certain level of quality so we dont have to touch anything. I am not sure the grass is greener on the other side, but I wish you luck.

Ski Doo makes great sleds. You'll like it....but what I'm surprised about is the 600 choice?????? That's the part you'll regret in my opinion Steve. Should have gone 850 for sure IMO. 600 is gonna seem like a scooter compared to the Winder. If it isn't too late...get the 850 instead, it's a much better fit with good power especially coming off the insane power of the Sidewinder. All the best pal.

CatJunk drives another Yamaha loyalist to SkiDoo. That sucks, but i dont blame you at all. Im guessing after their big 2021 sticker reveal, there will be more joining you

My broken chain case isn't covered under my expired warranty so i traded it in for a 600R.
They actually gave me a decent price for a grenaded chain case without opening it up so i jumped on the deal & i'll be riding tomorrow night.

I'm NOT leaving TY, but i currently do NOT own a Yamaha.

I'm sad & relieved at the same time!

Almost bought a BADAZZ 2020 1/2 XRS 850, but the coin landed on tails so 600 it is.

Will i own a yamaha again?
TO BE CONTINUED..........

P.s: I actually made the Sales manager give me a quarter to flip between the two sleds. Heads XRS, tails 600. It landed on tails......................so i took his quarter
Thats 2 yamaha rider's gone, going too miss your post's always get a good laugh from them, hope you keep us posted with a review on that bad #*$&@ 600R, im not sure why i'm still brand loyal after talking to yamaha customer service seems like they don't care that there reliability is gone out the window every concern i mentioned to them seemed like they never heard of it like a deer in the head lights they never use to be like that

Going to miss your witty humor Steve. My neighbor just picked a 600 R for his wife. He let me ride it on the lake and trail. Nice sled with great ride but front end is a little funky. Runs good till 70. She got about 95 on the lake in the conditions on that day. You will miss the huge power difference but will enjoy the dependability of the doo. Good luck! Did you ever tune that Ecoboost truck of yours?

Good luck with the Doo OCD, And don't think any less of us just because we're all on someth'n made at Thief River! Just remember.....as sure as death and taxes, we'll all break down someday!
