Been talking to the Woody's Team (great folks) and they have told me that the LTX-LE comes with an AC designed track that is intended to be extra quiet. As a result it has some small "bumps" on the inside of the track that will reduce typical Stud penetration (most Stud patterns will end up with a Stud a bump). I don't have my sled yet - can anyone confirm this (I'm wondering if I need to purchase a few longer studs to deal with the issue or simply reposition the ones that land on the bump).

I can confirm this and was actually wondering why the track looked like that as I just installed a new ice attak XT track on my Apex (sim. to the ripsaw 2 but prestudded) and it has none of those bumps. You can see them clearly in this pic:

Are all windows clipped? And the bumps you are referring to are all out side the rails?

If only outside the rails good news, I'm studding inside only

Clipped every other, and the bumps are on the inside of the rails as well where the inside wheels run on the track.

The studs will sink below the bumps. Just ignore them. Probably does affect height a little but not enough to matter.

exactly...in fact the pattern that cat/woodys provides to miss them bumps makes for a terrible pattern...I threw it in the garbage...I made my own and hit many of the "pillows"....with a thin head or low shouldered stud...you wont barely notice the difference...a thicker head stud like woody's and they will be more pronounced...but still barely seen....
heres a pic of my 16 ...1.630 ins stingers...(192)

Should we go with a slightly larger Stud? With 1.25" lug I was going to go with recommended 1.35" Stud, maybe better to go with 1.45"??
haha 1.325" is a total waste.. 1.45 is a partial waste...or at least what Id say as my minimum just for braking...1.500 is preferred...1.630 is for hookup....and 1.850 for all out race...and yes they fit , at least on the 16 cat they do!

SJ, when I studded my Apex a few years ago and went with the recommended (by woody's) 1.325 length, the difference in traction was night and day so I don't know that I'd say it would be a total waste and it may be easier on the track and the studs. If I did it again I might go 1.45 but the length you run just looks crazy! I bet that hooks up great, don't know that I'd ever run them that long in relation to the track lugs. Then again I don't know I'm ever going to run studs again after my experience last year.haha 1.325" is a total waste.. 1.45 is a partial waste...or at least what Id say as my minimum just for braking...1.500 is preferred...1.630 is for hookup....and 1.850 for all out race...and yes they fit , at least on the 16 cat they do!
im assuming you dont care about racing...but remember , this sled is around 200 hp to you apex's 150... whole different animal..
I had a few buds that said ...no more studs...each of them has had a crack up since..due to no studs and icy conditions that come out of nowhere...and all say they will never ride without again!

Any pictures of tunnel protectors?

I hear you. Thing is, most of my riding is in the U.P. on loose snow trails, where studs don't have anything to penetrate into so don't make any difference. It is only riding around my house in Green Bay area where the trails are more likely to be icy/low snow where studs really come into play. We'll see. I really wrestled with the decision to do an ice cobra on the sidewinder, but am thinking about keeping the ripsaw 2 in case I decide to go back to studs.im assuming you dont care about racing...but remember , this sled is around 200 hp to you apex's 150... whole different animal..

On the upside, I was looking in the tunnel of the sidewinder and it looks like there is plenty of clearance for whatever you want to run. Inches between track and tunnel/exchangers, whereas with the apex it seemed like millimeters.
