I decided I'm going to stud the stock track on my sidewinder and noticed it has the little rubber pads on the track where the studs are going to end up. Does anyone make a countersink bit to cut some of that pad away before I put the stud in?

Will the Studs protrude unevenly? Stud boy sold me the plastic prolite backers and 1.375 powerpoints.

They will be a little uneven compared to if it’s not on a pad. But I studded over it.

This guys video goes over what I’m going to do when my sled comes in to get around the internal quiet lugs.I decided I'm going to stud the stock track on my sidewinder and noticed it has the little rubber pads on the track where the studs are going to end up. Does anyone make a countersink bit to cut some of that pad away before I put the stud in?

not worth the effort in my opinion. I have studded plenty of these tracks with the quiet pads with no problems.
I don't like those backers either, I didn't have good luck with them

I’m with you on the backers, I don’t care for them so I don’t use them. This is my first time having a sled with the quiet track lugs. Should be interesting. Everyone has their preferences as far as stud length, brand, doubles, single and what type of backers.not worth the effort in my opinion. I have studded plenty of these tracks with the quiet pads with no problems.

Thanks for the replies. I'm still a little skeptical on the backers myself but I asked two of the different vendors at the snowshow about the durability multiple times. And they said they were stronger than the metal backers so idk as long as a stud doesn't end up in my heat exchanger I guess I'll be happy with them. I went with the doubles 192

Youd have to purposely ride like a physco and do stuff you shouldnt be doing to studs like spinning on rocks or curbs etc to damage one of those pro lite backers! Super tough if installed correctly. I would not use them on a quiet track without cutting the pads down just because there is not a metal thread to be screwing the studs down, its just plastic so itspossible you would strip some backers trying to get studs seated flush. Maybe it can be done but personally I felt more comfortable cutting the pads down. With that being said the 2022 winder is getting conventional studs as the install is quicker and price is cheaper.

I will end up cutting them down a little bit. I just found a old post on here of a guy that took a stud and cut blades out of it and chucked it up in a drill. Looks pretty slick I might try that method out and see how it works.

This is just my experience with the plastic backers. My buddy I ride with buys a new sled every two years and he gets the plastic backers. The last two sleds he’s had I’ve had to climb under his sled and tighten a loose stud during a ride. I’m not saying they’re junk, I’m saying you need to keep a close eye on them for loosening more often than the aluminum backers. I check and re-torque my studs before each season and thats it. Nothing more needed. Just my opinion. Someone else may have a different and more positive experience.Youd have to purposely ride like a physco and do stuff you shouldnt be doing to studs like spinning on rocks or curbs etc to damage one of those pro lite backers! I love the Pro-Lite plastic backers, however I also tap them about 3/4 of the way thru. They like to strip out and loosen up if you don’t tap them. I only use the pro-lites in the doubles.
