Just hopping on this thread.
So many issues with the Viper clutching.... coil bind, poor deburring/casting flash to the different ECU's and track options.
It's mind boggling what will work on 1 viper and not the other. But conditions are the major factor

Just noticed now your a vendor for thunder products. I spoke with lonn a couple days ago about my big venom clutch setup. My sled currently does 159/kmhr and I know it'll go a little bit faster in prime conditions, but do you think I'm really going to gain a lot or a even a little from this kit? Lonn said my setup should be 3/4" set screw at heel, aluminum bolt in first hole and metal bolt with 2 thin washers at the tip. I'm 165lb roughly fully dressed...what are your thoughts nos-pro? Is it worth installing?Just hopping on this thread.

It's worth installing just because of the low engagement, smooth take off and the pull that you would expect out of a clutch kit. These are the benefits that mean the most.
When testing, all the sleds that I worked with personally....mostly stock and some that had mods were able to do 100mph easy and some up to 105 and 106mph.
Conditions are everything and you won't do 105mph on a foot of fresh snow on the trail.

Ok great! Thanks Nos-pro! I am looking forward to the smoother engagement and more pull!

I have a 14' RT-X, she runs 100-105 in almost any condition. Hard pack or lose its not really a problem.from what I have seen, 83 -87 is my average top end in most every conditions.
the exception to this would be running hardpack or ice. then I get a decent top end.
I don't think you will ever be able to consistently run 100 mph in all conditions without major gearing changes and it will absolutely result in terrible low end performance.
my goal is to get a consistent 90mph no matter what the conditions are, so I have some more gearing changes to try out.
I am sad to say it, but for the most part I have begun to accept that this is an 83-87 mph sled.
When I first purchased the RT-X I was very happy with the performance and she lived up to every spec that had been listed, handled great, rider position and more. However the 80mph wall was definitely a problem. I ride mostly trail and mostly with a bunch of Apexs, starting with 07 Attak. They are all very fast and keeping up has as much to do with riders ability and a sleds handling.
Another problem when riding with a large group of fast sleds, keeping up with the pace. Certain areas in a trail system seem to be made for speed and a stock Sr Viper is pined at 80-85 mph at 8700 rpm while the Apex R1 motor is running 9500-9800 rpm and pulling away with more to go. Its not always about who gets there first but when your trying to make time and get somewhere it is nice if the group stays together. The Apex is a trail rocket, designed for it however I am not a fan of the ergonomics and the droning sound that is why when the Sr Viper came on the scene I looked at it very close.
She needs more power and gears to get more speed, it is that simple. If 130hp could get you what a 160hp does then no one would build them. If 160hp would get you the same results as a 180hp then no one would build them either. You can gain a little here and there with exhaust, header, belts, intakes and mapping but to get 100+mph consistently your going to need more than a couple bolt-on specials.
Sr Viper is begging for a tubo and clutch with gears, she is fine with out them but you will release the beast if you do. If your in Maine, call Rogers in Fort Kent and talk to Danny.

Hey if you guys R looking for more top end without machining and all that jazz, I'm positive you will get a few MPH by using a stiff secondary spring in conjunction with a low finish angle helix and more tip weight. It will take someone who is willing to do some testing tho. I would be up for it, but my viper is turbocharged so I'm unable too do so.

Arctic cat yellow spring with less initial twist (30 degrees) and stock helix. Would be a good starting point.
