I am having some binding issues with the Holeshot Helix from Thunder Products. Won't backshift all the way out with the stock secondary spring in 3/3. Anyone else have this issue? Is it supposed to be ran with a heavier spring? I've called TP's a number of times but can never get through as the line is always busy. Not complaining just thought someone might have had the same experience here.

Stock helix has no issues what so ever. Got good roller to ramp contact with all 3 rollers. No flat spots on rollers.

Sled Setup
2018 LTX-LE
192 1.64 Stingers
Hurricane 280 race flash
Hurricane Weights (older STM supertips) (-3 grams from tips from stock kit)
9/11 Response Cover with anti-friction washers
Stock Primary and secondary Spring
Turning 8900-9100 RPM pending conditions

I would use their orange springs as well. I have and it works well with the 33/35 helix. Cost is peanuts relatively.

stock secondary spring not enough when boosted and/or more helix...

as to the hurricane weights...there was some of the first versions (none to my knowledge are stm super tips) that had bushing issues ....dave posted something recently to contact him..and also for your flash update

Already sent Dave a message to get my updates. ;)!

Only reason I don't think its the weights is no issue what so ever with the stock Helix/Spring combo. I can replicate it on the stand. Belt just stays sucked in the secondary and won't backshift all the way. I ground some .069 thick washers to within a .0005 of each other that I might try between the cover to see if I relieves some of that binding that happens on the spring but the TP helix spring cup should be a bit deeper to begin with.

I tried the 33/35 with my TD PT set up .,It doesn't load the motor enough and it seemed to stall the shift mid range .The 35 works perfect with a tune .33/35 seems better for a stk tune .

Are the spring holes in the TP helix in same position as your stock helix?

Personally I prefer the stock 35 degree helix, works awesome on my sled with TD Powertrail flash.

I never use the stand as a test....no load...

I'm trying to learn the intricacies of clutching - doesn't this helix go to 35 very quickly in the ramp? Why wouldn't it load the same as a straight 35 as soon as it gets from 33 to 35?

I was told the 33 will hold the rpm's a little longer in the low end but once it hits the 35 it should work like the stock 35.

Likely the 33 portion would allow for a bit less belt slip as well and should "backshift" out easier in that portion. Think of the helix like a wood splitting ax. Steep (large angle) helix shitfts up quicker but backshifts slower. Sharp ax goes in easier but comes out harder. Wide ax won't go in as quick but comes out easier.

My weight could act to load more at 280lbs but I found the combination to be responsive compared to stock, especially out of corners.

With the added power of a tune the 33/35 stalls the shift and makes the motor rev but not pull. With a tune you need to load the motor even more without adding heat to the belt by slipping or stalling the shift with a helix .Straight angle helixs also seen to work better on long track sleds .

What weights, primary and secondary spring were you using with the 33/35 helix? What track and gearing do you have?
I grabbed a 33/35 helix to play with but just getting everything back together currently.

Agree with Ken...I quick spool tune will allow for more helix(not reverse) I still want to test with mine to see as I have tight trails here, and want to play with my STMs to see how they work together. But do believe a stocker or maybe a 37/35 would work well with orange.
