I have a question about advancing the timing. How exactly is it done and does it have anything to do with the CDI box? Thanks

timing key would have nothing to do with CDI box...

A key simply moves the flywheel over a certain distance(1 degree,2 or 3) depending on the timing key that is installed.

I have not heard any true postive results YET with timing keys....

Thanks for the info Dan. I currently have a Woodys powerup kit which is a 3 degree timing key some cluching and spring change. I would like to get alittle more performance. I've been checking this site for awhile and wonder about the attack white spring and changing the plugs. Any other suggestions? I haven't really done anything myself so I would like to start with some easy stuff Thanks in advance

I have a 3 degree key in mine. I did not do any back to back testing but my sled sure does rip.

does anyone have any data on the timing keys on the dyno?...Id like to know more if they make HP and what rpms.

From what I've seen on testing with just a timing key. Added 3* with a timing key and increased low end and midrange acceleration but lost top end.

thank Allen...you just confirmed what i thought and also heard now twice...I think this was what we used to find also on 2 strokes, they made bottom and mid power but would always make less MPH.

thanks

Don't forget that the extended tip EK plugs have a similar effect to advancing the timing.

The problem (?) I wonder about with a timing key on on an EFI engine is that the injectors may also use the sensor to determine what time to fire. They will begin their pulse/squirt a little sooner. Could this cause the increae in low/mid and the top end loss? Any hypotheses?
