Track adjusters keep blowing out

I would think you would be more apt to see a problem on the left side as you tighten the axle it my want to creep away from the tensioner bolt. It wouldn't take much movement at all to lose tension on that adjuster.

I have not looked closely at mine....is there enough room to just add ANOTHER NUT to the opposite side of the cast piece where locknut sits? It would make things more of pain in #*$&@ when adjusting but if it fit, we could tighten the 2nd nut down to sandwich the cast piece in between the two nuts.

Just not sure if a nut will fit there.

Dan

Seems odd....I tighten mine initially, then torque axle. So how can i tighten mine more?

You have to remember I run my track very tight as always, so the adjusters have quite abit of pressure on them as I always do over the yrs. Ill keep eye on them but they sure seem tight to me so far.

Dan

In the service manual Dan it states Tq axle to #34 ft. lbs. then tighten adjusters to 84 inch lbs. So that's what I have been doing and then have no problems loosening up.

That's how all the adjusters were on my old Cats and Poo's. I think they call them JAM nuts not LOCK nuts. ;)! We need snow so we can ride and stop thinking about all this stuff.:sled1:

Appears to be. Note this is just a picture off the net but I recall on mine easily enough for a lock nut on the outside.

Yeah I read that Mike....The way I have my track taught, I'm certain i have at LEAST the 84inch lbs. But Ill check them after reading this thread for sure.

Thnx

The old sleds had a double nut setup which is a Jam nut.....I was thinking another nut on opposite side, not together.

Not sure though, as the bolt is close to rail....see pic below, not sure another nut would fit there.

It looks like not enough room for another nut as rail is too close.

I doubt it Dan, I run mine tight too and after torquing the axle I get about another 1/4 turn on the adjusters.

Don't need it, just tighten those bolts to 84 in lbs. after the axle is torqued.

It seems odd that with a nylock nut these would ever loosen off....But it sounds like guys here have seen this happen.

So far mines been good for 550 miles, Ill keep eye on it.

Maybe load up the threads with loctite to 'GUM' up the threads some....

Are you loosing the cast part on the axle that the bolt pushes against also? I have seen people tighten the adjuster bolt too much after torqueing the axle bolts down and it cracks that flimsy cast axle spacer. Grip and rip makes more solid aluminum ones.

I'm not adding one as I've not had issues. Don't think there is room there. I was thinking on the outside the rail but won't do any good if the existing nut is facing the axle.

Any pics? I think the stocker sure could use some improvement.

thnx

I do mine the same way. Run track nice and tight with the adjusters then blue lock tight and torque the axle bolts.
