found out that the previous owner of the Sidewinder I just picked up swapped the ECU into his new sled because he had a tune on it. So now the ECU in mine won't match my VIN. Are the tunes registered to the VIN, if so how will I go about flashing this.? I was planning on getting TDs flasher with datalogger.

Hmmm. Good question. I' sure Ben can still fix you up.

I would think aftermarket can work around it. Dealer might have questions if they notice VIN is different. I dont remember whether VIN has to be entered before accessing ECU or whether its just retrieved when its hooked up. I think its just retrieved when hooked up. Will find out for you.

If i remember correctly the flasher tool retreives the Vin# and also the serial# make and model etc. im sure one of the pros will chime in and confirm your concerns, but ya give Ben at TD a call he will know for sure.

vin is coded into the ecu...your vin is read by the flashing tools...so if you tune it...it is a tuned ecu with that vin still present

I get that. I guess what I'm getting at is do I have to give them the vin when I buy the tune. If so I'm going to have to figure out what the ecu vin is before I can buy the tune

talk to Ben at TD or even Mike
I will try and give them a call. I messaged them here earlier in the week about other stuff but haven't heard back yet. I usually try to avoid calling our vendors so they can reply when they're not busy but I want to make sure I can get around this or this sled is going back.

They are super easy and real nice to talk to and incredibly knoledgable with snowmobiles and motors alike.Im certain they can give you an answer regarding your concern about your ECU.

Ben and Mike are super busy, demand for their products is crazy. Ben hasnt been on ty or hcs much as he hasnt had time. Give them a call they will answer your question. Your ECU vin can be pulled when they flash it, if you go for a bundle when you get your flasher if i remember correctly it will pull the info to send to them.

It won’t be a problem the flasher pulls the vin no need to give the sled vin

Why would there be an issue? Flasher pulls VIN from ECU.

Only think that may become an issue is warranty stuff where ECU does not match tunnel VIN.

I dont see why flasher would care about tunnel ecu. Unless it has a code thrown from the swap. But I would guess you would have seen a code

Dont think its an issue at all.

Only problem I see is if they ever had a reflash from factory then the work being done would be registered to the VIN on ecu since it's automatically done. Not manually entered by dealer. Don't see a factory reflash anywhere in future for Sidewinder anyway though. Yamaha got this one right.
