tuner 3 skis

Trying to figure out if it's worth upgrading carbides on the tuner 3s or just bite the bullet are get curve skis
Damn it

I ran the stock cat ski on viper it worked ok with slim jims... bit of push in loose snow. Hated the tuners I tried will be putting curves on the sidewinder

Tuner 3 ski my experience.
In Hardpack conditions (so like early morning, or steady cold temps with very little fresh snow on trails) ski handles great with a 4 & 4 or 4 & 6 carbide set up (woody's carbides)
In Loose, Fresh (anything over 4"), and heavy wet snow, Tuner tends to pack up a bit and will cause some pushing.

Pretty much like any ski it has its pros and cons, and chassis setup can affect handling as well.
Everybody has an opinion of ski, so it comes down to rider preference.

Im very interested in the new mountain ski...looks alot like a slp ski ala mohawk of powder pros...Id like to keep it "all yamaha" but if I cant it will end up being c&a's or 6.9's ....I know a doo ski, blasphemy!

So from the sounds of the vast majority, the tuners are out. Now for a quality replacement on that chassis. I really like Simmons for hard cornering and i don't really mind the heavy feel. That being said, do the Curves bite as hard as the Simmons?

I would think the Curves with shapers would be a great ski for the Sidewinder. At least thats what I'm going with. Will look into the Thrusters as an anti darting add on if need be. If anyone is looking for tuners in fall mine will be for sale.

I can tell ya,rocker dan and myself both ran 5.7 pilots on our procross sleds and they make it rail,i don't care what the ski saids on its side, they were cheap to buy,and easy to install, with a set of shapers 6" min,7.5 if studded, they always took me deep into any turn, and turned, just what I wanted, they held that turn no matter how fast I took it,i knew they would bite and make that turn,in all conditions.

Those 5.7 are you running 2 carbides in and outside or are they the performance 5.7 single carbide ski ?

Old style with two carbides, but the outside one really don't do much itcept save the ski bottom.

Yeah but they do work at saving the ski bottom thanks for the reply. Good to know. Did you have to buy the mounting kit too or just bolt on ?

I don't know about the 5.7's on the procross, but I did have them on my apex when they were the rage to add to that and while they did help some over the std. yamaha skis I was not overly impressed like I was when I bolted the curves to the viper. The 2nd most impressive part of the curves other then the awesome turning was how awesome they tracked in that burm of unpacked snow the groomer lays down off the side of the drag. I was able to just plant the sled right on that and ride it. None of that sliding all around. Why? I don't know lol. It was kinda fun to do and I felt like I was helping to pack that junk down for anyone to follow. If you do go with the pilots be mindful of where you ride. I had a rock wedged in that underside channel that needed a tire iron to remove and a big stick on another occasion. Also I think Cannondale had a bit of an incident with his getting hung up on a rail road track tearing up his front end on his viper. Those of you looking for ski options really should do a search in the viper section. There is allot of info on the different skis. Per that section it looks like the majority go with curve or mohawks. Whatever you go with make sure the alignment is right. My dealer had mine all jacked up when I asked them to check them for me. The sled was ALL over the place. I corrected their alignment mistake and was good to go again.

Great info I've been running pilots for a few yrs. without any problems usually with 6" up the center and 4" outside and it worked well on doo's.
