I see that Yamaha has closed the tunnel opening and removed the snow panels on the 2009 Phazer. Can we expect them to come out with an upgrade for all us 2008 Phazer owners with an icing problem?
Yeaaah finally!

I just spoke with a product specialist at Yamaha and he said that there is a kit available to close the tunnel and that if I would work through a dealer he would work with that dealer to fix my problem. An article I read said that included on the 2009 Phazer was additional heat shielding to protect the seat. Hopefully this will solve the problem

As soon as I saw this I was on the phone with my dealer! I'm sick of the ice building up, and water running down the tunel soaking my pants and boots!! Looks like Yamaha caught on to this and addressed it. I just hope my dealer can get it for me at no cost. Should have been this way from the start.

They caught on because of all of us 07 owners that went ahead and closed them off. They took notice and realized that there not really melting down like they thought they would.

I'd hope they would give it to 07, 08 owners. Will they....we'll see. I'm doubting it.

Re: Customer service
Who's your dealer? I see that your local to my area (Hilton) and I need to build a new relationship with a Yamaha dealer. If it is the shop up on 104, good...bad? I talked with the owner awhile ago and felt he genuinely cared about the customer, not the typical BS response.
BTW if they say there is a kit, please let me know...I'll take one.

the yamaha site says that the rear tunnel has been closed. was does that really mean anyway. the photos on the site show the close off panels on the front area of the tunnel. so does that mean the front hole is still open. sorry about the lack of puncuation but my computer does these éè;.è^ç.éèÈ:"'ɨÇ_+ when i want question marks etc.

if you ride strictly trail it may help the iceing problem, i closed mine off last year on the Mtn Lite and ride mainly off trail and the ice is a major problem. Off season I am installing heat exchangers under foot

I think it may vary, I did 70 miles of mtn riding sunday, closed tunnel
and very little snow build up at all just a little on the kickups mostly due
to sidehilling through some deep snow. and absolutely no buildup in the tunnel.
Instead of heat exchangers, consider snow eliminators or better boards
for snow evacuation. They work really well. no strength lost.

to help with snow evacuation, I just drilled an assload of 1 1/16 holes in my boards. much better

There are two problems as far as I can tell, the tunnel hole and the fact the foot boards are too short. If there was a kit or way to extend the ends of the boards like they used to do with the plastic bumper covers that came around and attached to the foot boards and tunnel on old yami's I think they be as good as any other trail sled.
Motoman made me up some nice rubber outfits that block the snow at end of runningboards.Work great. Will take a pic later.
