tunnel Ice- anyone ever figure out a way to stop it?

I found a 2 part spray can application from rust-o- leum paints at farm n fleet for $20. I just applied it this summer & will give feedback once I get a chance to test it. It won't let moisture stick to it & just beads up & runs off. I tested it with the hose & works well. As for temps below 32 I'll have to wait & see.

Installing the plate to the protectors will do two things, it stops the ice from forming around the protectors and it reduces the amount of snow that hits the muffler and refreezes. If you remove the protectors no ice can form on them but you'll still have a lot of snow melt from the muffler refreezing on the sides of the tunnel. You'll see a reduction without the protectors but I think the better method is to add the plate.
Thanks Grizz, One more question, does snow not collect on top of the plate and cause the same problem??

I've never had any problems with snow or ice build up on top of the plate. It amazes me that people will spend $20 on a spray that will eventually wear off when they could do a permanent fix that's been proven to work for approximately the same cost.

I don't know first hand if this stuff works or not but if I could spend $8.00 for somthing that would need one or two treatments per season and eliminate oxidisation keeping my skid and tunnel looking like new I am interested! After reading about it I stumled across some and bought a can. One can will treat skid and tunnel several times. Worth a try!

I'm using a 1.5" track on my sled. Will the plate still work with this track?

Sure it should. If you have tunnel protectors, attach like Grizztracks has done. If tunnel protectors are removed, I'm sure you can still fabricate and attach to inside of tunnel.

Where do I find this 20 dollar fix

Look at my picture on page 2.. $19 and change for a 36x36 sheet of alum from home depot. Cut it to 12x36 with some shears. Riveted it to the tunnel protectors. It's thin but I think it will do ok. If it tears I'm going to bend my leftover piece of alum in half and try that.

This is probably the best thing I did for the ice build up. An added block off plate, polished and waxed you don't get much if any ice.

LOL! I have a turbo in my tunnel with a charge air cooler! It is not going to get blocked off! Maybe fluid film won't work but for $8.00 it is going to get a chance! Apparently SnoTec has seen it long term and claim it makes a big difference.

This discussion is addressing the ice build up in a Nytro tunnel which from what I've seen tends to be worse than the other models. Do you plan on using your cooking spray in a Nytro tunnel or Apex?

Yes both Apex and Nytro, Some Turboed (depending on kit) Nytro's have the same circumstances as my Turboed Apex. I highly doubt any one is cooking with lanolin! Have you tried fluid film? Apparently no one has as I received no input from the question. You seam to have a problem with the idea. Whats the problem with trying it, will my sled melt? By the way Nytro's are not the only sleds with snow and ice build up issue's.

do you get any rattle from the plate? did you put anything between the plate and tunnel protectors like double side tape or something?

I just learned of fluid film a month age for the frame of my D-max. After getting some & appling to the door lips & tail gate it just might work on the tunnel. I'm just not sure on the longevity of it staying on the tunnel & not wearing off. Give it a try & let us know. It can't hurt by any means.
