Just wondering if the Nytro guys are removing the tunnel protectors when running unstudded like the Apex to prevent ice buildup. I am getting ready to change my track so it would be a good time to do it if so.

I would say yes. Your not going to hurt anything with no studs. At least, thats what I would think.

No studs........no tunnel protector needed. Mtxs don't have them.

Does it help the ice build up by removing the the two tunnel protectors ?

Yes it does. Get a dremel and some good cutting wheels and your ready to go. Oh, and don't forget safety glasses!
Good luck.
Good luck.

I removed mine with a dremel before last season. It did help with the ice under the tunnel. Still get the huge chunk just ahead of the snow-flap though

Looks like I may leave them in. Since I have a rack on the rear the tail light wires run through the RH protector and come out the back to the small LED light. I am in the process of milling a billet holder to mount the stock light in since it's alot bigger, and I need to keep the wires routed this way. I could leave just that part of the one protector, I guess. Thanks for the reply's!

Cut mine off a couple of weeks ago, just tired of hauling a 50 lb buddy around all the time .

Protectors are there for a reason, you will be in for a world of hurt if you remove protectors when running studs. ![Div20 ;)! ;)!](/styles/default/xenforo/smilies/div20.gif)

Removed mine with no issues. With that and with block off plate it has eliminated 80% of the ice build up.
I took mine out today,Removed the back two bolts to drop the suspension, used my dremmel to cut the back and middle brackets then wiggled the bars till the first two rivits in front broke, to get the final rivit to break I put a open end wrench on the protector and gave it a turn. popped right off.

Be careful when prying/bending the front two rivets off, I have seen some Apex and RX1's done like this and the cast aluminum tunnel has cracked because of prying the protectors off
