Turbo viper Needs jump pack to start

Hi everyone new to this form. I just got a Yamaha sr viper and its having a couple issues. It will crank over 3-5+times and then shuts off i do that a couple times and if im lucky it will start If not i hook up a jump pack it starts first crank, thats 60 ish degrees in the garage. When im out for a ride and i shut it of it will not start unless you jump it and even then it takes a few tries. If i let it sit for 20 min it starts on its own first try.

Whos turbo is on your sled?

A) replace battery. Could be weak but seem good.

B) replace starter. Aftermarket starters are known to work better than what was in there originally. I just replaced mine in my 2017 NA, and it starts much better. Less than $80 from DB Electric, relatively easy to install through oil filter access panel when oil filter is out for a change. Two bolts and one nut. Toughest part of pushing the starter into position while installing the bolts. Helps to have someone push it in while you insert the bolts.

Thanks it's a brand new battery but I'll try the starter

If you have the ability to swap batteries, it still might be a "bad new" battery. It does happen.

That's the second new battery i put in and the voltage shows 12.8 on the screen

Hopefully the starter fixes things im also going to see if Northern can give me the latest flash

Tested the starter and it works great. Does anyone have any other ideas

I stuck the battery on the charger cuz it was at 12.2 volts. when i put the battery on the viper after it was fully charged it went up to 12.7 and with 2/3s throttle it fired to life. Is it possible there is a parasitic drow?

It’s very possible. Could be voltage regulator or maybe just a bad connection.

It’s on the nose of the sled. Follow the wire from the mag cover and they will take you to voltage regulator and cdi. It is aprox 4”x4” square with fins on it.
