Reading on the Forums about the Viper seems like a pretty good sled overall & price point on an older one vs a Sidewinder is attractive especially after addressing its known problems & then increasing performance . A Viper with a built engine with a 400hp Hurricane @ 270/280 hp on the trail tune against Sidewinder/Tcats (everyone i have seen is 270flash ++)who comes out on top if setups are comparable??

Not worth investing that money into a Viper IMO. Sell the Viper while the market is hot and use that towards a Winder. Your looking a $9k CAD for a 400hp Hurricane kit plus rods, pistons and having it built vs flash and some bolt ons. And then there's resale if you ever think of getting rid of it in a few years. Never get close to your money back on a Viper build not that that matters to everyone.
It'd be an interesting race though!

I am looking at a complete sled someone else already made the investment on everything , I'm the guy looking to pick it up at a depreciated value of original build .Not worth investing that money into a Viper IMO. Former Yamaha sleds:
2004 Venture 600 2002 SX Viper 700
1997 Vmax 600 SX 1994 Vmax 600 1989 Exciter
1986 Vmax 540 1986 Phaser 1981 SRX 440
Essentially the same chassis. Viper has a stronger stock primary. Winder has a roller secondary. Winder has a 15 wide chain and gears vs 13 wide on Viper. Same drive axle bearing issue on each. I would think it would be a good race with the best clutch set up and traction coming out on top.

Ah. Got it. I was thinking you were going to add to stock Viper.I am looking at a complete sled someone else already made the investment on everything , I'm the guy looking to pick it up at a depreciated value of original build .
One added bonus to the Viper is the front mounted radiator and heat exchanger in front of drivers vs Sidewinder front and rear tunnel heat exchangers.

I would guess that if both sleds were running similar HP, the Viper would out accelerate the Sidewinder right off the start to maybe 85-90mph. After that, the Sidewinder may reel it in.
I guess it depends if the Viper build has higher compression pistons than the Sidewinder. That would make a difference.
