I just got my ulmer clutch and reading the instructions I feel confident I could do this my self I don't have any clutch tools and instructions don't show any need not even a puller is needed is this true or are the instructions over simplified beceAUSE ONLY a skilled technician should perform this and they would already know what tools they would need and the procedure any help would help.

It's a 10 minute install (if you don't need to adjust the secondary) with simple and tools.
If you need to adjust the secondary you need a pair of snap ring pliers (and a second pair of hands makes it easier).
Just maker sure you put the bolts for the weights in the primary back in the same directions/order.

There is almost no load on the spring. When you take the bolts out it won't fly off.
It's as easy as the instruction make it out to be.

If you don't already have one, get yourself the Yamaha shop manual. The parts manual or fiche is great too. Sure helps when re-assmbly of a mult-part item and you need to know the CORRECT order in which to assembly each component.

Is there actually an Ulmer clutch or is it an Excell clutch that Ulmer sells.
I was checking around for something and their websites have the identical pics, etc. let us know how you make out with the install - I'm interested because I am a bit mechanically challenged. I was looking for a clutck kit for my VL but was told by Excell that it is not suited for the VL - must be different gearing or something.

How much is this and does it make a noticeable difference?

Should be the same as the one I did in my Apex. Let me know when you go at it and I'll drop up to give a hand.

i think what Ulmer has is changing the spring and weights keeping the stock primary clutc. its just a kit to tune it up and make it better.

Makes sense. Let me know and if I'm around I'll certainly give you a hand. If the weather stays like this we may never get out.

After putting 100miles on ulmer clutch kit figured i'd give update and see if others are experiencing the same results .I never hit rev limiter max 11,600 quicker engagement and take off is more agressive. some say 12o bucks is alot for some clutch weights but if someone said lower your rpm and get some low end power and quicker engagement for that price we'd all (most) be in.
