Can that shock spring be replaced without pulling the whole skid?

Sure. Just remove the front shock swap the springs and reinstall the front shock.
Leave the spring loose when re-installing the shock. It will make it a little easier to compress the shock to install it in the skid.
Dont forget to adjust/tighten the spring locknuts when you finish the shock install

Did Yamaha do any of this for 2016?

I would be willing to bet they did exact same thing. Why they didnt just valve the shocks correctly still amazes me. In my opinion this is a backwards move.

I agree with Cannondale, if the shock cant compress/rebound correctly a different spring isnt going to help. Cant wait to ride with my re-valved shocks this year!

Right! Then they add a lighter dual rate spring to center shock on the LTX which has a hard time getting front end light to begin with. Wonder what happened over there? I bought this sled based on riding 2012 Cats. They really messed with suspension since then.

Cannondale, let me know how your heavier spring works out for you, am interested in your findings.

Will do. Odd I and many others are doing exactly opposite of what the Cat article talked of!

I also agree that had the shock valving been right we most likely would not be having this discussion, but regardless. Im always looking for ways to improve the ride and handeling of my sled.
I had monster performance revalve my shocks because my 14 rtx rode like a brick.
Like many on here i found that very minor changes in the front shock spring made drastic changes to the handeling of my sled.
I have used dual rate springs in the past and loved them. I am excited at the opportunity to get a cheap dual rate spring
the new spring cost me 37 bucks including shipping.
My plan is to put a few miles on the stock spring with my newly revalved shocks, then throw in the new dual rate and see whet the difference is.

You made your point pretty bluntly on Arcticinsider.

You made your point pretty bluntly on Arcticinsider.Personally I am happy with the old spring package when the shocks are revalved but...there are much smarter guys than me testing the new sleds. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. I've never owned any sled that the stock shocks couldn't be improved a ton with some shock work by a pro. Unfortunately I don't expect Cat/Yamaha to all of a suddenly be any different but they have hit the mark much more close in the past. . BTW.... it's cheaper and more profitable to have people buy new springs than to admit your shock valve package was horrible.
On the other hand, there has been no shortage of folks...especially the old Yammy guys....going with softer springs and claiming that was the answer for them. Personally I think some of the companies are going with a more soft trail friendly package on sleds that were intended to hammer the bumps. Not to take away from bad suspension packages but....I would say way too many people buy the "cool version" and then whine that it's too stiff for their riding style when their old butt isn't getting the soft grandma trail ride. It happens ALL the time.
I agree with most of what you said here but have to disagree on 1 point.
I realise your comment is not directed at me but as you are referencing many people i also believe i speak for many people.
When i bought the rtx version i expected the sled to ride very firm. But with that said, i also expected the shocks to work.
I weigh 240 fully dressed.
When i sat on my sled the suspension did not budge.
No shock compression or sit in at all. Zero movement. Thats wrong and
Cat/yam really screwed up the shock/spring/valving on the 14 rtx i can assure you of that

What they are doing is trying to address the push the stock sleds have by putting more weight on the skis. Maybe some like a sled that front end cant be lifted enough for even a small hole or whoop. Not me. They did say they did some revalving also so hopefully that is better. I know it is on the QS3's so maybe not as bad as could be.
